Question High Torque Starter...

I was discussing starters today with a car buddy and he asked me about 'high torque' versions. Are the factory BB starters considered 'high torque'..??

Can a rebuilder increase the performance over the stock setup??

Thanks,

wilma

The GM high torque starters has a larger diameter armature in them. You can usually tell a High Torque from a Low Torque from where the field lead exits the case. The field lead that is spaced about 5/8 of a inch away from the solenoid motor terminal is usually a High Torque. There are exceptions to that rule.
