1968 GTO
I have a friend that has 1968 GTO that is all original car. Born with drive train...100% original paint. He bought the PHS for the car but does not know what all the codes mean. His dad was the original owner of the car he ordered new. The dealer never gave him any paperwork with the car so no docs. He does not really care about the docs as much as understanding what the codes mean. Is there anything I can print out for him so he understands them off the net?
Car is soo clean...it looks like new. I will ask if he wants pictures of it posted. Dave 67 Nova Boy |

Re: 1968 GTO
Dave,
I bought the PHS docs for my '68 GTO last year. As I recall they gave the break down of what the codes meant. I'll check my paperwork when I get home tonight to be sure. Post some pix if you can. It would be cool to see. Mine has 34K original miles, but needs a repaint. Phil Woj. |

Re: 1968 GTO
Phil,
Thanks for the help. His car has 17,412 miles as of today. I made him take off his seat backs and only found a small paper with a few numbers on it. I will get a picture of that but is there any other places to find any info on the car hidden? The color of the car is sebring mist I think...Silver/green mix. This car sits in a cinder block garage all the time...just started putting a cover on it about 10 years ago. oh, no heat either! Dave 67 Nova Boy |

Re: 1968 GTO
The option breakdown should have come with the PHS docs. If it's a Pontiac built car, check under the carpet on the drivers side. I have found a few right under the drivers seat or slightly forward. It might be completely tar soaked from the sound deadener....

Re: 1968 GTO
The buildsheet for my cousin's '68 GTO was under the carpet but I'm not sure which side.

Re: 1968 GTO
Check under the backseat bottom. The 69 Judge I had in the 90's had it there, even check over the glovebox and under the front carpet feet area. Also, and I'm not sure if this is even done anymore, I had written to Pontiac Motor Division something something, I forget now, but I received a copy of the microfish for my particular VIN which actually stated I had in fact the Judge option and whatever else applied to the car and had all it's codes next to each description. Pretty cool stuff to get back then. Had where it was built and what dealer it went to as well. That paper under the seat is pretty fragile after 40 something years. When I finished pulling mine out it was in about 10 pieces and only 3/4 of it was there.

Re: 1968 GTO
Microfish...he said something about that he has that. Can that be copied to paper? It was a very big deal for him to take the seat backs off as he is so scared that it won't be the same going back together. There is a car show tomorrow and I'll take pictures of his car and his PHS as I asked him to bring them for me to look at.

Re: 1968 GTO
Dave,
I checked my PHS docs and they break down what the info means that they give you. I doesn't have a build sheet with it, but does give the break down of all the options, accessories, colors, etc as the car was ordered. If he can find additional paper within the car, that would be great, but the '68 GTO VIN and body number tell what the car is and if the car is an untouched survivor; the car will speak for itself. I was fortunate to get a copy of the original dealer's invoice with mine. Sounds like a great car. Post pix when you can. Phil Woj. PS. I checked under my carpet, at least as far as you can with sill plates off, and did not find any additional paper work other than the carpet manufacturer tags. |
