Default Auction House Results

Having watched the Bullitt auction, how much of the final hammer price does the auctioneer really influence? No doubt the pre-event marketing, and the bidders attracted on the day, are the key factors, but much of the result must fall to the ability to work the room and coax out bids. Do the big auction houses rely on the same people for consistency?

It seemed like there were only two bidders after it hit two million. I think he tried to coax every last bit out of the price but it's still up to the bidders. It was sure packed in there, took a while to clear the huge crowd off the stage and if you watch the cars later in the day there are tens of thousands fewer people in that building.

Thanks Tom. I was thinking more generally than just the Bullitt auction, don't really follow auction much but that one got me wondering about auctioneer's influence.
