Default 1970 Z28 Unrestored Original

Selling my 05C Norwood 1970 Z28. $38,000.00. This is a running/driving car in need of restoration. I purchased this car in 2014 from the original owner as a basket case and re-assembled it replacing only those items needed to make it safe to drive, including brake/fuel lines, wheel cylinders, calipers and master cylinder. Original owner is still alive and well and I stay in contact with him. Below is a description by section:

Paperwork:
Original P-o-P
Original Dealer Order Sheet from Don Crow Chevrolet in Lubbock, TX
Original Body Broadcast Copy (very rare for a Norwood car)
Original key blanks
Original Owner’s Manual
Original (not a copy) Title
Various insurance and motor vehicle inspection receipts.

Engine:
V0508CTB. Rebuilt by TW Automotive (receipts for all engine work included)
Partial VIN visible by oil filter
M-code block
Later “492” heads. (Have one original “186” head and also have correctly date coded “186” head)
Original 110 intake
Original 4555 carb dated 032 rebuilt by Eric Jackson
Original 2019 distributor dated 0C18
Currently wears repop manifolds, but I have the born-with 527/826 manifolds
Original AIR tubes
Original AIR pump de-vaned
Original 418 starter
Original 456 Nodular flywheel
Original 7712 balancer
Original deep-groove W/P, crank and AIR pump pulleys
Original IA/CT radiator re-cored.
Re-stamped 837 alternator
Replacement, but correctly dated, 692 rebuilt water pump
Original fuel pump J40726

Transmission:

Original M21 dated P0E08B with partial VIN
Original 621 bellhousing
Replacement Center Force clutch and pressure plate
Original Muncie shifter, rods and arms. Still has the original 5618 reverse lock out rod and mechanism

Differential:

Original COZ 0514G 3.73 ratio.
Original drums. Brake cylinders, brake lines and brake hardware replaced, but original components go with the car.

Interior:

Original 720 Dark Green Custom Cloth deluxe interior.
Door panels are very nice for their age.
The only item replaced in the interior was the carpet as the original had already been thrown away.
Everything works…gauges, key-in-ignition buzzer, etc….even the original clock works!

Body/Chassis:

The body is rough, but looks worse than it actually is. The rear frame rails are solid. The trunk pan has some soft spots, but is save-able. The floor pans are very solid with only a small quarter-half dollar size hole in driver’s foot well. Paint on fenders, hood, upper and lower front valance is original. Original spare, jack and trunk mat are present. Car includes all five original wheels and still wears 1974 date coded Firestone Polyglas GT tires. Windshield was replaced in mid-1970s, but car retains original side and rear glass. Original fuel tank, which is extremely clean inside, however I replaced the original fuel sending unit due to exterior corrosion of the fuel hard line. Car still retains its’ original vinyl top, trim and weather stripping. A complete Joey’s exhaust was added. Driveshaft is original, however u-joints were replaced. Shocks were replaced in the mid-70s.

Backstory:

Original owner ordered the car in TX while in the Air Force and took delivery in June 1970. One month after purchasing the car, he was shipped to Vietnam and spent 1 ½ years in county. After returning from Vietnam, he left the Air Force and returned to his hometown of Rochester, NY where he spent his career at Kodak, (still has Kodak parking sticker on driver’s side door glass). He used the car as his daily driver until 1977 when he took it off the road as he had plans to restore it some day. That “some-day” began in 1979 when he disassembled the car and boxed/labeled/cataloged all the parts. He then began sanding down the sheet metal and applied rattle can red oxide primer…then the car sat again for 12 years. In 2012, he had the engine rebuilt, but then suffered a sever stroke in 2013 and realized he would never be able to finish the car. This is the condition under which I purchased the car in September 2014.

I bought this car as a future restoration, but wanted it in one piece so as not to “borrow” it’s born-with parts for other projects. Therefore, I left it all in unrestored condition and only replaced items necessary for safe operation. The engine was thoroughly checked and deemed a solid quality rebuild. I replaced the hydraulic cam with a Howards LT-1 grind and their EDM lifters. During the rebuild, one of the original heads was found to be cracked and both were replaced by “492” castings. The cracked head was discarded but I still have the one original and have since obtained another correctly coded 186 head. I broke the engine in on a run stand and it runs flawless. Car starts, runs, drives and shifts very nice with no issues.

Interesting notes on this car: The order sheet indicates the original owner ordered the M-22, but the transmission is coded M21. The trans stamps are real and it is believed the dealer mis-ordered the car. Also, the car was ordered with VF-3 bumpers, but the OO swears the car never had the rubber bumper strips…another dealer mistake?...not sure.

This car is as honest as they come with bullet proof documentation, born-with components and contact with the original owner. It speaks for itself, but I am open to answer any and all questions not covered above. (443) 521 3158 / [email protected]

Tossing this car out there one more time and will consider reasonable offers. Also, I have the following sheet metal to sweeten the deal:

NOS: Tail panel, outer wheel houses and trunk drop offs and passenger front fender.

Clean OEM: Doors, hood and decklid.

Any questions or to discuss further, please feel free to call me: 443-521-3158.
