Default 1970 Z28 Paperwork and Pad Stamp Opinions

A friend of mine asked me what I thought of the pad stamp, trim tag, and paperwork on this Z/28. I have my opinions and I am curious what everyone else thinks. Opinions?

Thanks,

Jason

Interesting a Norwood built car being sold new in LA when VN is very close by.

Hi Jason. I’m not an expert, but I have a CTB block (that I believe is genuine) in the garage and I think the suffix stamp looks different from the one pictured here. The gap in the C and particularly the B… I also agree that it would be unusual to have an OH built car sold new in CA, but I’ve also heard that sometimes that happened with low volume models and maybe even because of the unique build year in 1970.

My block, FYI for the stamp comparison:

Just MHO,

Seems kind of suspicious that a car sold into California is missing the mandatory NA9 evap equipment. Does it have it on the car? This probably would not have appeared on the sales form, but pretty sure it would be on the window sticker, which most likely is a fake one. Affirming this is the "Black Cloth Interior". This was only available with the Z87 Deluxe interior option which would have been on the sales order and the window sticker. Looks to be a "made up" window sticker that matches the options the car now has.
The CTB on the engine pad also looks a bit wrong to me, but I'm not an expert on this. My CTB engine suffix looks just like Anthony's. Note the B has equal size top and bottom bumps.

I agree with the suspicions on the block stamp...especially the "B" which appears to be a different font than another known original stamp produced 2 days after the subject block. As for the paperwork, Dave noticed some key items, but in addition, note the date on the top of the hand written retail order. The date at the bottom appears to match the date at the top...but wouldn't the customer have written the date at the bottom when they signed?

Post 1970 z28...

I will let the gurus deal with the engine pad and geography issues.

The sales invoice and order form are standard Reynolds & Reynolds documents used back then. The sales order would have been filled out by the salesperson and signed by the customer. You will note the salesperson's name appears at the top left and his signature is at the lower right.

The SA-131 invoice was a stock from which was crash printed and numbered by Reynolds for the dealer. You will note the dealer imprint and numbering are the same color...my recollection is the crash printing was done in black, but it has been a long time since I dealt with these forms??

Window sticker seems too clean and neat to be an original 50 plus year old document.

All that said, a Hugger Orange LT-1 Z28 with a 4.10 gear would be fun to own

If he had sanded any harder on the cowl tag you'd have nothing to go by.
