Just to muddy the waters further for you Dave, I had a 944 like the one below and Sapphir Blau was a great color, and since Charley put up that 911 with the red interior, I thought I'd add that as well, and for the finale, the Special Edition 911 in burgundy and tan interior is just an extra possibility.

That is a nice color, Mark. I like the Sapphir Blau. Almost looks like there’s three colors sprayed there. Plastic fading, older paint, who knows!

MK can insure the 507 for whatever I would like at this point since it’s about 80% done and it will be a titled and registered car. So that led me to add up the receipts just to see where I was at. I don’t remember much after that point yesterday. I can tell you one thing, the jokes about hospital food are true!

Anywho, bumpers showed up yesterday along with other parts. Updates forthcoming!

Cheers
Dave

Fear not! That was a weak attempt at humor indicating a hospital stay after I actually added up what I've spent so far resulting in a potential faint, fall, and head injury after Kelly found out!

Don't worry, everybody OK here! She doesn't know! (that's a joke too. I wouldn't be where I'm at without her support on this! )

Cheers
Dave

Whew! Amazing how we sometimes interpret other people's written comments and come to different conclusions.

By the way, your last check should bounce because you can't spend any more once you are gone.

We’re inching closer to the finish line! Well, we’re several thousand feet away and I don’t see any banners or anything. So nevermind. But forward progress the last few days! Driveshaft slipped right in so now everything is connected front to back. What’s left underneath here? Exhaust, emergency brake cables, rear axle brake lines.

Under the hood I started thinking about my remote oil filter set up and while I like it since it looks identical to what the 507 has, I don’t like the small oil lines designed for a small straight six. So I ordered a regular V8 remote oil filter and installed that low in the engine bay below the battery tucked up on the inner frame rail. Easy to get to and change the oil if that ever needs to be done. The original remote oil filter I was going to use will stay there and look the part but be non-operational.

Bumper time! 507 bumpers are, how should we say, pretty rare to come across and they don’t make them aftermarket. But I did find a set of 503 bumpers which are similar and I figured I could make them work. These are custom made when ordering so I altered the front bumper’s width and that worked out well. Just fabricated brackets and it mounted right up! Very happy with it.

The rear was going to take some modification to fit. I placed it in position and then decided how much I needed to chop out of the center to shorten it to the body dimension. I removed about 3” from the center. I tack welded it together making sure the reflection had continuity so when rechromed, there’s no wave or distortion showing where I made the slices. First up was to mount the license plate light and trunk bezel.

The sides on the 503 bumper are too long and almost touch the wheel openings. I needed to make those shorter but with that comes a problem. Shortening them too much results in too much a difference in material between the end piece and the fatter part by the curve. I needed to find a nice balance between those two parts which also resulted in the bumper not being so long on the quarter panel side. Once I figure that out, time to cut!

I tacked the ends in place and then trimmed the remaining excess to form a smooth transition between each part. I noticed that after placing it against the body after the mods, it was still a tad too wide. I sliced out another 1” in the center and then welded it back up.

PERFECT!!!!! Rear bumper brackets get fabricated tomorrow and then it’ll be onto the exhaust over the weekend. I wanted to get the rear bumper on before I started on the exhaust so I could make sure the tail pipes have proper spacing and clearance.

More to come!!!!

Cheers
Dave

Couple more showing the bumper fitment. You can see how snug that rear tucked up to the body after splicing. I feel like Foose n' junk! Although they are thicker than 507 bumpers, they look the part and think they'll work. Very happy with the rear one after the modifications!

More to come....

Cheers,
Dave

Very nice work on modifying the rear. Looks right at home on there now. How many people even know what this car is, let alone if the bumper is exactly as original...
