This authentic 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS “L78” retains its original color combination and original matching numbers 396/375 V8 engine and 12-bolt positract rear axle. This car has been certified by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance. This is one of only 4,889 “L78” models produced in 1969 making this option one of the more desirable models for the Camaro. As the original VIN number tag and original trim plate tag indicate this car was built on the 4th week of October of 1968 at the Norwood plant as a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Sport Coupe. It was ordered with an Olympic Gold exterior with black Super Sport hockey stripes exterior and black vinyl interior. It was also ordered with the following options in no particular order: Camaro SS equipment, style trim group, rally wheels, console, AM radio, J52 brakes, 375hp Turbo-Jet 396 V8, 3-speed Turbo Hydramatic transmission and positraction rear end with 4.10 gears. This car was sold new from Earl Wagner Chevrolet located in Minerva, Ohio. It was purchased by Mr. Jason Quinn in 1976. He removed the original matching numbers “L78” engine for a higher performance engine and campaigned the car in drag racing. He decided to sell the car in 2015 after 39 years of ownership and put the original matching numbers “L78” engine back into the car. The car was then a product of a rotisserie restoration. It was inspected by Jerry MacNeish on May 4th, 2016 but the original report #1236 is not included. Most of the component issues were corrected over a few years timeframe. Jerry MacNeish inspected the car again on October 12, 2020 and the original report #1601 is included.
The exterior of this car is in excellent condition throughout. The body is very straight with excellent panel fitment. The body was painted in its original factory color of Olympic Gold with black Super Sport hockey stripes. The high quality metallic paint was detailed to a beautiful shine. The front windshield was replaced. The door glass, quarter glass and rear glass is original with factory stamps and in very nice condition. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced new. The car sits on 15” Rally wheels with new trim rings and center caps. The wheels are wrapped with Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 tires. The black bucket seat interior is in very good original condition which is reflective of a lower mileage car based on drag racing history. The carpeting was replaced new during the restoration process. The trunk compartment was fully restored and highly detailed including a correct style trunk mat. It’s equipped with a full spare and bumper jack, dated 8H.
The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The hidden VIN stamp in the cowl area is original and authentic. The car is powered by the original matching numbers 396 V8 engine that was factory rated with 375hp. The engine was completely rebuilt and runs excellent. It retains an original #4346 Holley carburetor, dated 893. The engine breathes through factory manifolds and a brand new dual chambered exhaust system. It has the correct tail pipe adaptor plate on driver’s side rear frame rail. The engine is coupled to a replacement M40 Turbo 400 automatic transmission that was completely rebuilt. The power is transferred to the original 12-bolt positract rear axle with 4.10 gears.
The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The original floors were restored to new condition. Everything has been restored or replaced such as the fuel tank, steering system, suspension components and braking system. It retains the original five leaf rear springs. The original owner’s manual and selling dealership key chain is included. The fact this is an authentic 1969 Camaro “L78” with its original matching numbers engine and 12-bolt positract rear axle makes it highly collectible. This car was recently serviced and detailed which is documented with an invoice that’s included. From the MS CLASSIC CARS Collection.
