My R-59 reproduction TurboStart Battery is on it's last leg.Considering going to a generic store bought top post Battery, and just add the R-59 topper to it for local cruises.
Can anyone recommend a good store bought matching top post battery today? Something preferably that would need very lil modifications with a similar sidewall that matches the old R-59 Delco eye design? |

Recently bought this NAPA battery. Fits the topper and the Chevelle battery tray perfectly. Maybe not what you're looking for but fits well. |

I just bought a standard sealed top battery & put a topper on it. We have a battery whse here in Tucson. Batteries come with no labels. They have reals & reals of labels to be used on the battery before it's shipped to Walmart, O'rielly's, Merles or whoever is the selling dealer. I think there's only a coulpe of places actually making batteries today. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my reproduction R59 that died...Joe

Thanks George,I'll look into that battery as it does look promising.
Joe,I too am not sure what to do with my almost dead R-59. Stores say they'll refund me a core charge of $18,but it's worth more to me than that. I might gut it and keep it as bookend. |

There is only 3 or maybe 4 battery companies left. I buy the cheapest one with the warranty I can live with and keep it on a tender. Expensive batteries fail as well so ask yourself this…Do vehicle manufacturers spec out the most expensive battery? Nope, they only want it to do the job and make it past warranty to about 4 years.

You can always gut it and put a Braille lightweight compact battery inside. That's what I did with my dead Delco.
Looks factory from the outside.

Think I might give Lynns excellent tutorial idea a spin during the wintertime on my empty shell, but for now,I appreciate all your recommendations so far for one under my topper.
