Default 1969 Z28 Fan shroud issues

Hi,

When I purchased my Z28, it had an aftermarket radiator with a 67/68 fan shroud. I purchased/installed a 69 rebuilt radiator and nos fan shroud but the 772 fan is hitting the bottom of the shroud. The shroud has a 19+” opening. Did I receive the correct shroud? The 67/68 shroud that the car came with has a 20+” opening therefore no issues with scraping. I have the correct frame and engine mounts. Any advice would be appreciated. My mechanic is well versed with first gen Camaros but is perplexed.

Is it possible the incorrect one was shipped, or just incorrectly made? What brand?

It is a NOS 1969 GM 3938615 from a large reputable dealer, however it doesn’t have any stickers or markings. Maybe made wrong?

I thought the NOS ones had the 615 # molded into the part.

For 1969, Chevrolet used revised mounting components for 302 and 350 engines.

The frame brackets [3945507 & 3945508] were re-designed to accommodate the new interlock motor mount. The new mount [3939728] was taller and narrower than the 67-68 mount, the new frame brackets are shorter and narrower than the 67-68 parts.

However, in production Chevrolet continued to use the 67-68 style parts for the 307 and 327 engines resulting in two SB motor mount part numbers for 1969. They do not interchange; if the 67-68 style motor mount is used on the '69 302/350 bracket, the engine will be incorrectly positioned. It will be too low in front and fit loosely on the mounts, often causing clutch chatter. Under these circumstances, it is possible the fan could contact the shroud.

One way to tell is to check the distance between the [8"] balancer and the front sway bar. If the balancer is a 1/2" or so from the bar, you have the wrong motor mounts.

Experienced this problem on my 1st Z/28 many years ago.
