Re: 1973 Pontiac HEI distributor
Actually, not an HEI but the rare Unitized Ignition option that was the predecessor to the HEI. It was available on the 1972-74 Pontiacs before the HEI came in in 1975. Lots of people yanked them out and replaced them with the HEI distributors because they were shocked to learn when it came time for a tune up that the one-piece, octopus looking spark plug wire set cost around $200 back in 1972 when a regular plug wire set cost about $20. And no aftermarket vendors made the plug wire sets either.
I had one of these on my 1972 455HO Formula (It was a mandatory option on the Formula 455HOs) What is the part number on the distributor housing? Ths is what the plug wire set would look like. |

Re: 1973 Pontiac HEI distributor
I think that they called it the unitized ignition system. My 72 455 HO GTO had that ignition system on it as original equipment.

Part number is 1112203. I have had it for years sitting around. I am doing my spring cleaning while finishing my 64 GTO
