Default Twins are hunting now.

Seems just yesterday I was announcing that I was a grandfather.

The twins are nine now. You should see them play baseball. They only weigh 52 pounds but both of them can hit a baseball 150 feet. They both throw hard and accurate. They play short and second; and they can turn a double play consistently. Pretty unusual for that age. They may be even better at basketball; even though they are the two shortest guys out there. My grandmother was 4'10", so they came by it honestly. Last game I attended Cade stole the ball 12 times, and fed his brother Brian for consistent layups. They accounted for 20 of their team's 24 points. They play on a regulation court with a 10 foot hoop. Believe it or not, they can hit 3 pointers pretty consistently. They are so small, no one goes out to guard them at that 3 point line.

I bought an air rifle so they could target practice. Both have gotten really good. When we first started, I always won the competition; not any more. Brian rarely misses dead center by more than a 1/4 inch from 30 feet.

Here is Cade with the Doe he took down today & Brian with the 10 point Buck he got last night. Brian also got a Doe yesterday. I am not a hunter (their step dad and their other granddad took them hunting) but think the boys are doing pretty well for age 9.

Kids today need more of this reality as to where sustenance comes from. Hunting and farming/gardening and understanding this process should be taught in grade school. Turn off videos, tic tok etc and get outside and use your mind and senses !
Great job getting these boys in the great out of doors. They will be better humans in the long run.

I have a quick shooting story ... A friend has a farm and (quite a few years ago) invited me up for some skeet shooting. I hit one in the air. I finally figured out that it is much easier to simply wait for them to land then stroll up and POW. Others present were not impressed

Anywho ... fast forward a few years and my friend asks if I would like to bring my 13 year old nephew up for some shooting. I get permission from the sister and off we go. The drive is roughly an hour from my place. During the drive I explain to my nephew that, although this is going to be fun (his first time firing a real gun), it is a LOT harder than it looks.

Yeah, you can pretty much guess the rest ... I missed EVERY SHOT. My nephew? He literally hit his very first shot (keep in mind ... this is a MOVING target and he has never even shot a gun once in his life) and the next four. I stopped counting after the first five as it was too hard to see through the tears while I walked away in shame

I don't mind letting a kid win but this ????? ... ouch

I think the earlier you get them started at virtually anything, the more likely they are to "get it" right. Ever see those old films where they throw infants into the water and they just start swimming?

One reason the twins developed such good baseball skills is that I taught them to hit using a real bat and a real ball at age 3. The were shooting baskets even before that.

I don’t want to start bragging on my boys... oh, who am I kidding, of course I do.

They finished the baseball regular season with only one loss for the year... and that was a one run game. Start a post season tournament next week. They both pitch. When not pitching, they still play short and second. So fun watching these little guys. 10 years old, and just finished fourth grade. Up to 62 pounds and hitting a baseball 175 feet.

Now they are really into fishing. I don’t fish, but my son (their Dad) does, and he taught them well. They have their own tackle boxes and set up everything. I hve been fishing with them three times so far, and the only help I have given is getting a stuck line out of the water. There are two ponds in my son’s neighborhood. Lots of tiny blue gill and big catfish. They start out catching the little blue gill on fake worms, then use the blue gill for catfish bait with a circle hook. They did great today. Both caught several in excess of 5 pounds. Here is Cade with the last catch of the day. I don't know how to upload a short video. The catfish got some revenge right before I took this still shot.
