I just looked through a box of 68,69,70 Cars Mag and every fly-eye I found on a new MP car has the flat snap ring.
Not sure, but I think the wire ring came after 1970.
The way to go is with one that is documented by a magazine picture of the year you need.

The early flat snap rings that held down the screens on the fly eyes were a pain to reach in a get off with the 2 holes at the end of the ring as was on mine. So JoeC, that would fit the timeline...Later on I stuck a easier to remove top wire ring with the pry openings on the top when they became available and just kept it for ease of servicing..........probably like you said after '70..

The fly eye Verne is showing is shown in one of the first '69 Motion large catalogs sent to members ...and most likely even before that....and so and so on...

I know I bought mine from Joel in '69. But I'm no expert on the cars and I'm not trying to indicate which style he installed on any car or when.
Come to think of it, I saved all my receipts for the car back then. You'd think I should have a few in the box since I bought a bunch of stuff from him. Now, where's that box???

Joe, I didn't know you were looking in that direction. Is there something about you I don't know yet???

Well, I found "the box". I won't derail the thread and go into detail, but there were some from Motion, many from Cal Speed in New brunswick and many from Roger's Speed Shop in Daytona (address 409 Volusia Ave.!!!) The very bottom of the box had 2 receipts from Reedmans for the purchase of the car in '69. Man, I haven't looked at those since 1969! Hundreds of receipts in there! What memories.
OK, one more tidbit.....I found a receipt from a Chevy dealer in Georgia (one of my trips to or from Daytona) for replacement of a broken valve spring. Total cost: $7.69, part and labor! I completely forgot about that one. What to you think that would cost today, even if they had the part in stock????

$7.69 wouldn't even pay for the hand towels today !!

Someone on another forum ask "Whats a flyeye"? I posted this pix of mine- and promptly got my chops busted for using an air cleaner device that was unsafe - upchuck through the carb - and bang - the whole car burns. I'm still using it. What do you think?

It was no problem as long as you kept your car "well tuned" and cleaned the sponge air filter now and again...Mine has been on the car since day 1..Also there was a low profile and high profile(sat a little higher off the carb) type--I had the high profile type.
O.K --Verne...

I think mine is a low profile but I've not seen both together. Don't know how to post a pic here yet, but if I could, I would. Thanks for the comments.
