“These seldom-seen vintage three horse race coin-operated children's rides always attract a crowd. Matter of fact, a Carousel International Kentucky Derby Horse Race Ride example is currently on display in the Kentucky Derby Museum. A western themed example sold at the Barrett Jackson Auction for $63,250.00 in January of 2022. In my opinion, this is the best restoration of a three horse race ride ever completed. If you're a vintage coin-operated children's ride enthusiast and a horse racing enthusiast this is a must have piece of memorabilia!” – Marc Schiliro

This magnificent 1970's Carousel International Kentucky Derby Themed Horse Race Coin-Operated Children's Ride is a high quality restoration with great attention to detail. It's truly a piece of artwork that will be the highlight of any collection. From the information gathered it was produced by the Carousel International Corporation in the early 1970's. This company manufactured coin-operated children's rides from 1968 to 2007. The company was founded in St. Louis by Norwood E. Veatch, Sr. and was the largest kiddie ride manufacturer in the United States. Carousel International supplied mini-rides to K-Mart stores across the country. This example was discovered as an original ride and recently restored by expert Jeff Russell of Big Boy Toys located in Oklahoma for MS CLASSIC CARS. The restoration was completed in July of 2024. October of 2024 is the first time it's ever been listed for sale.

This 50+ year old coin-operated children's ride is a spectacular piece of memorabilia from the 1970's. This was a time of The Watergate Scandal and iconic movies such as “Grease” and “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. The original sand cast aluminum three horse bodies were stripped and prepped to capture the detailed body features. The three horses were then painted with automotive grade paint which included air-brushing for a realistic appearance. The right front horse was painted in the beautiful color of gray with a black mane, tail and stockings. The original saddle was slightly modified to appear like a Jockey saddle and painted blue. The left front horse was painted in the beautiful color of medium brown which included the mane and tail. A white blaze was painted down the middle of the face. The stockings were painted white and black. The original saddle was slightly modified to appear like a Jockey saddle and painted red. The middle rear horse was painted in the beautiful color of light brown with a slightly black mane and tail. The stockings were painted black. The original saddle was slightly modified to appear like a Jockey saddle and painted yellow. All three horses have realistic painted eyes, mouth and decorated halters. The paint is in show quality condition and was recently detailed to a brilliant finish. The original metal grab handles, poles and stirrups were stripped, prepped and painted black.

The original fiberglass base was also stripped and prepped. During this process the original service hatch and metal pieces around the pole holes were removed for a more realistic appearance. The base was painted in a light shade of tan which looks like the color of the sand. The sides of the base were decorated with Kentucky Derby graphics including horses racing with Jockeys and flowers. The graphics were clear-coated over for a realistic appearance. The base was outfitted with a new coin-box and pole which was painted black. The coin box is activated with a dime or manually by opening up the box and pressing lever. The base houses the ride mechanism, ¾ motor, new sound box and 110-volt power cord. The sound box plays the sound of real horses racing. The original rubber stands were replaced with new caster rubber wheels for easier maneuverability. Everything is in excellent working order as demonstrated in the video provided.

This amazing vintage Horse Race coin-operated children's ride is a piece of eye-opening artwork. Countless hours were invested in this exciting ride making it a one-of-a-kind. Vintage coin-operated children's rides are becoming highly collectable. They make great display pieces in homes, garages and businesses. This is a special moment because you have the chance to own it.
