Default 1111170 distributor question

Ran across this 170 Distributor in the stash and it has a small, funky 2 lead box on it, wondering if it s something to do with a factory Transistorized ignition or is it aftermarket.? The p/n codes as a 68 SHP BB distrib. Thx in advance to the experts

Magnetic pickup conversion. You can just remove it.

Looks to be a Pertronix or similar brand electronic conversion.
