Possible 1970 Yenko Camaro

A friend of mine recently bought a 1970 Camaro that is very unusual. It is a a 1970 Camaro SS with a Muncie 4 speed, 12 bolt rear end, tach and gauges, and a fiberglass L88 style hood. The car has a couple of Yenko decals on it and has LT-1 decals on the hood. The car is very rough and has no motor. The car was supposedly a road race car in Panama. The car still has a Panama license plate on it. It has 12 inch wide slot mags on the back. Color is Classic Copper with a White vinyl top. Previous owner said some guy looked at it and claimed it had a big block heater box. He also said this car was bought new by his best friend at Yenko Chevrolet and an LT-1 was in the car. I don't know how the car got back to the states, but it looks to have been off the road for years. I am aware of the Yenko cars through 1969 and the 1970 Yenko Deuce Novas, but not any Camaros after 1969. The road racing deal seems to tie in to Don Yenkos racing program. I think they might have installed an LT-1 before delivery, maybe Z28s were in short supply. How can we tell if it was a small block or big block car originally?

The heater box would be one clue.. Don't know why an LT1 would originally be in the car with a big block heater box..

Car could have been sold as just a regular Camaro by Yenko and not a "Yenko Prepped" car..

If the car is an SS then it would not have been available with an LT-1, only a 300HP 350 or a 396 I think.

Heater box is irrelevant, as second gen Camaros all used the same one.(Not withstanding air.)

Cowl tag information may be helpful. It will tell you what it started life as if built in Norwood Ohio. If it has L78 or Z28 on tag.Does it have a factory dash tachometer? 8k or 7k gives clues. Vanuys built cars usually have a build sheet above gas or in or under seat upholstery.would disclose the dealer it was delivered to. Welded rear sway bar brackets. Even the frame mounted motor mounts will give clues. Only factory big block cars and the z28 got a special lower mount to give better hood clearance for the air cleaners. Also you can order the NCRS paper work for dealer information too.

Adding this as a edit to my previous post. The motor mounts were lower to fit the heavy
duty motor mounts for the hi performance engines in a z28 or or a big block SS camaro.
