Default Day 2 Reflections

I just ran across an enevelope of old 110 photos dated 1977. Lo and behold mixed in were photos of my first real hot rod and what we did to these cars back in the day. What follows is a primer on why original cars are so few and far between. The year is 1977, I am 20, and this is what happened to a low mile 1969 camaro that I purchased several years earlier in perfect original condition. I drove this car for 2 or 3 years year round in this configuration. Can you ay steam roller?

Some of the streetable additions at this point were:
15 X 8.5 and 15 X 10 American 200S
Complete matched set of Firestone Wide Oval 60s
5.13 12 bolt
12.5 to 1 302 with insanely wild cam that would not idle, hold belts, not overgeat, or make vacuum. Sweet!

Is it possible to get any more tire on a car without cutting?

Went from this to my first new car in 1977. I carved this one up immediately as well with a new set of Americans and Firestones. Check out the pinstriping! Wish I had em both back!

Just noticed in this picture the evidence of a driveway popping line lock event in my Mom's driveway. Man, I was a PITA!

Been there and done that back in the 70's. I had a perfect 68 BB that we tore apart and moded including cutting a hole in the perfect original paint SS hood to accomodate the new intake and breather! I was back in my home town for a class reunion and went out to the barn all of us used to pull our cars apart back in the day hoping to see the pile of OEM parts we pulled off and tossed in the corner. ALL GONE....

Sure, air shocks make any tire fit. Here's mine in 1979 with M50-14 on Crager 14x10 reverse offsets:

In some respects I enjoy seeing cars like this more than the perfectly restored trailer queens. Pictures like these are proof positive that most musclecars didn't stay as delivered for very long.
