Default New scammers or bots?

Who are all these users that start with Marvin? Sure looks suspicious.

I checked 5 Marvin's and they are awaiting email confirmation. Their emails also look suspicious and mostlikely won't be able to complete registration.

I have notified the website admin and await his response.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Just to put this in context, we get about 500 scammers a week. Most are identified and although they apply for membership never become members. There are several groups that are identified as and total about 60k in non-active folders.

Most are just automated programs (bots) looking for a way in. The scammers such as thomas1, are human fraudsters.

All the marvin users were captured by our software and now in a non-active state.

Default Site Member Registration Issues

Computer generated members / Bots

We are implementing a new system to prevent these bots from registering. Also all new registering member who have not provided a required requested returned email in the "users awaiting email confirmation" folder will not be displayed or added to the membership list until they are confirmed. There are close to 15,000 "users awaiting email confirmation". These computer-generated members will no longer counted in our membership total. Until a year ago this wasn't an issue, but it's becoming a real issue.

On the flip side there are legitimate new members attempting to register, but not gotten the confirmation requested email. This issue is being resolved by implementing an updated mail server system for the site to ensure confirmation emails requests are sent out.

Thanks Steve! I've been wanting to post a couple WTB's, but have procrastinated because of this issue. - Bill W

Just a heads up if you have an email in a wanted thread then expect to get emails too with scams saying they have what you need. They will even send a photo. Luckily it didn't pass the smell test so I blocked him.
