Default Code 40 Butternut Yellow Z/28 Pictures. Real ?

I mentioned in a recent post that I am looking for a butternut yellow 69 Z/28 and it brought about some questions whether they exist or not. Records show that GM made about 125 or so of them and I recently stumbled across a car that I photographed at a car show about 10 years ago. It appears to be a butternut Z/28 with white stripes. I don't know if its real or not as a couple things look a bit odd with this car. Black grill and rear antenna c/w spoiler, but then we have all seen this happen to cars out there. If it's real, then this would surely be one of the rare ones. One thing for sure is that it's the only one I have ever seen in the flesh. I forgot about this one being seen until I found the picture of it the other day while I was cleaning out my data safe.

If the general did in fact make that many of them in Code 40 B/Y, was it available with black stripes. I really would like to know about this so if anyone has any GM Zone paper referring to 69 color combo's or has seen a Butternut 69 Z/28, please don't be shy. Sorry about the glare on the pictures. They are digital photos taken of old photos.

Thanks in advance...

Graeme

What is your reference that shows GM made about 125 BY 1969 Z-28's?

I remember seeing one for sale on the internet a couple of years ago at TRM Classics. I believe it had a black vinyl top (not real sure) and black stripes.
It was a BEAUTIFUL car. I wish that I could have bought it.

The info was based on posted paint codes with estimated productions found on the Camaro Research Groups web site at http://www.camaros.org

1967-69 Camaro Color Use Estimates (As of August 2001)

Color / Code / (%)
Butternut Yellow / 40 / 0.8

Based on an average of 20,302 Z/28's built and doing the math on that ratio, there could be approximately 162 cars built in code 40. This is not a known fact but a rough guess based on those production factors. Thats why I was asking if anyone has a 69 Zone Office letter showing color options for the 69's. Jeff has one that I have seen for 68 cars, but further evidence would be great to acertain how many were done in 69. The paint code is listed as an optional color for 69 so where are they all?

Didn't Mike Arnold have a 1969 Butternut Yellow Z28 featured in a car mag years ago?

This photo looks like Daytona Yellow to me.

There was a Butternut Yellow one at the Domino Farms show a few years ago.

I also would not use your estimated number as anything other than speculation. Different colors had different weights depending on the model. With 20,000 Zs made, I would think there'd be more than what you describe.

Hugger, I saw a real low mile, '69 Z, survivor, Butternut w/ black stripes and black interior at a Columbia River Camaro Club event in Portland, Oregon about 8 years ago. I have not seen it since but it may still be in the Northwest?

A number of years ago, I remember a magazine (Super Chevy?) running a feature on a nice survivor '69 Z in unusual colors. I'm pretty sure it was Butternut Yellow with dark green standard interior. I need to look for it, because it seems to me it was special order green stripes as well (They're probably black, but in my memory, I only see yellow and green and rally wheels, you know?) I'd look for it now, but with Christmas here and a new 1 week old baby girl, I don't think my family would understand me sorting through all the old boxes of magazines at this moment. However, if I do find it, I will scan and post.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I seem to remember the Super Chevy article too, and I think the car was part of the Carl Dwiggins collection... If I recall correctly, the article boasted about the rare green interior with the BY paint, but the pic of the trim tag showed that the car was originally fathom green...

I do know there was a BY 69 Z or Z clone at Super Chevy in Bristol TN this year, but I think it too was a repaint...at least it had black stripes...
