Default Moldings for the 300 Deluxe SS

Chevyman0429,

I was wanting to understand, did the car originally come with wheel well moldings like other SS cars or because it was a 300 deluxe did they drop those? Maybe PostSedan has the information on this? I only ask as I have a hugger orange 300 deluxe SS and have been back and forth with my dad on wether I should pick up an OEM set or not.

Default Hugger Orange 300 Deluxe Hardtop

I do. Mine also had the holes but my car was wrecked and repainted and I was suspect that any previous owner could have added them. This car was talked about on the website here years ago. I managed to come across it and pick it up for cheap. It looks rough, but is actually very solid in the floors and trunk. It will take some work but will be a top end show car when im finished.

By chance did this car come out of Mason City, Illinois? Previous owner was Tom S.?

Default Orange SS 300 HT

Rick,

I cant say if it did or didnt. I purchased the car from a guy that lived in Gladstone, IL. I cant recall if he was the person that bought it from ebay when it was known on this site a few years back. The car is Baltimre built and then was sold in Newport News VA. Funny how it made its way to Az and then back across the country.

All SS396, Z25 equipped chevelles in '69 received the wheel well moldings no matter if they were 13427, 13437, 13637, 13667, or 13680 models. Chevy pierced the upper 5 holes in the fenders and quarters, but drilled the rest of the holes when the moldings were required. When I say drilled, they were drilled with the self tapping screws for the moldings. So the moldings were located with the upper 5, then the linesman would self tap the rest following the molding. Also, the oem moldings have the upper center hole as just that, a hole. The rest are slotted. The repops are all slotted, including the upper center.

Alrite crawled back under this car looking for a cast date in the center section! It is not there as seen in the pictures. Did they cast the dates in different locations? Here the pics

The stamped date on the axle tube is 5-29 the build date on the cowl tag is 05A so probably not original to car but is a KF 3:55 69 rear
