Either some of those high rollers are really smart, or the rest of us now paupers are real dumb.
Mr Arrogant Ferrari Man was so wound up in his 'tude, he didn't realize the ONLY guy bidding against him never opened his mouth after it reached 2 mil, and then he got in his face. He threw away a cool 1.16 mil of someone's money. Then he's on his knee's and crying? probably doing the same thing today esplaining to the money man how he stupidly threw away 1 mil cause he wasn't paying attention. He could have bought 7 more Corvette's with that savings... Who was the big guy with the Tennessee hat anyways? JH

question...The way I understand the bidding is if you are high bidder thats it...the auctioneer will say sir you have the bid or something like that...and look around for the other bidder or a new one...right???...I don't see how he can bid against himself...I understand when its his turn to counter bid he can jump to what ever number turns him on but not bid against himself...I would think if thats the case there would be recourse with BJ as they bid him up with no other bidder.....I agree he was wound up and not using his head but I guess I don't understand the process if thats how it really goes down and sticks...

<font color="blue">That would suk, if the auction house would actually 'let' you bid against yourself,
especially with all the 'helpers' B-J has around. ![]()

Bud. [/ QUOTE ] Someone should forward him a copy of the video of his bidding so he can throw it in BJ's face and say: "Here's my last un-countered bid at 1.7 million. Here's my check for 1.7 mill. If you got a problem lets let the attorneys (and the press) handle it and see how the public feels about your shill bidding procedures." |

The Motion Vette did indeed sell,& is real money bid by another. This from a Friend of mine down there. He said it's going to stay west now. Isn't Tony, the one who owns/owned the Motion Corvette,& George is his good close friend? ![]() [/ QUOTE ] I think George restored the car and was taking care of all these arrangements around it being at BJ, but he isn't the cars owner. I'm pretty sure he's a close friend of the owner. Another thing to point out is this is the first time a Motion Phase III GT has been for sale publicly this way. And being so few were made and the owners having a tight grip on them, until now there hasn't been anything to base a real "value" on these machines. What do you compare it to?? I think $210k for a nice Motion GT is a strong starting point. The thing about this Gold/Black GT that me and Larry have thrown questions at each other about, is it a BALDWIN sold car with paperwork from Baldwin Chev.?? These days it seems every single Motion prepared car gets labled as a "Baldwin/Motion"..whatever it is.. But doesn't a Motion car sold though Baldwin (a true Baldwin/Motion car) hold a higher value than just a Motion car?? I would think so. So having Baldwin Chevy AND Motion Performance docs on a car would make it worth more than a comparable car that is just a Motion Performance car right? My only question about this GT that just went through Barret-Jackson... is it a "Baldwin/Motion" Phase III GT?? Or is it a "Motion" Phase III GT?? ![]() Another question would be how much more of a value would a Baldwin/Motion car have over a very similar Motion only car..?? I think guys like Mark Hassett, Dan McMichael and Kevin Suydam would have some quality imput on this question. not making a big deal about it, just wondering a bit. ![]()

I think there was a phone bidder on the 3-million '54 Olds concept car and that's why we didn't actually see another bidder going against "Ferrari guy." I'm almost positive it was Ferrari guy against the phone bidder.
Bud's right, you can't bid against yourself. When it's your turn to bid you can throw down a big number to try to knock the other guy(s) out of the running but if the bidding stalls you can't keep yelling out bids without at least one other bidder pushing the price higher. What would be the point of bidding against yourself? Yeah, there's some questionable prices being paid (IMO) for some of those cars but no one out there is paying one cent more unless another bidder makes them. |
