I agree, what's wrong with someone wanting to know what their car is worth? Don, are you mad that it took you so long to gain all this info or mad because others can now get it fast and free?

After reading this Thread I have a couple of comments.

1. Shill bidding is never a good thing but if you think it only happens on eBay then everyone is fooling themselves. I have seen it first hand at numerous major auctions. Is making all the cars no reserve and then letting the owner buy the car back okay? It certainly is a great way to get exposure for your car and raise the value! With the way prices get pushed up every year after Barrett Jackson and the credibility that BJ brings to the car it is a great investment to do just that.

2. Everyone wants a bargain but the person who finds that deal is entitled to whatever the market will pay. It is easy for someone to complain about prices but I guarantee that if they bought it cheap they would also ask for the moon. So lets not pick on anyone for making a buck.

3. These cars have become an investment vehicle for many people. Most of whom have lost heavy in the Stock Market. At least with a car you can enjoy driving, showing, restoring and still make money to boot! That will keep prices rising. Supply in demand just like everything else (gasoline is a great example of that)! I am just thankful that my passion and hobby has an upside.

Just my opinion for whatever its worth.

Thanks

Jason, Ive had the knowledge since i was 16 yrs old. If you talk to anyone who knows me personally they will tell you that i will help anyone who need a value or a tech question answered because i truely love these old cars
Nobody loves GTO'S more than I, Hell I had them when you were made fun of for having a Judge. But anyway I just think Its one thing to help someone out and let them enjoy their car like you do but when its done underhanded to gain wealth then I have a problem with that. I promise I wont bitch no more so nobody thinks its about me. I was really just trying to help but I will keep shut from now on.
Someday you will see my point.

Maybe the better way would be for him to put a higher reserve on it.

As far as i am concerned ebay is really just a cheap, national for sale ad.
$50 to list, $50 when your reserve is met.

The reserve is kinda like the old days, when you put an asking price on the car,
someone can buy it, or not. (which is why I don't understand a "secret" reserve price)
Maybe he wants to get $70K for it and he is trying to make it look worth that.
One of the members here thought it was worth pretty close.

I'll bet almost everyone here has bid on a friends car at one time or another.
Really no harm IMO, because either the car is worth that or it is not.

If the car is not worth $70K, then it will not sell.

Maybe he should have just put an ad in Hemmings, with a $100K asking price?
Maybe that is what he will do next.

Some guys don't really want to sell their cars at any price.
This is a real good way for him to see EXACTLY what it is worth and not sell. (only will cost $100)
Appraisals cost more then that, this is actually a better barometer of the true value.
It is not ethical to shill bid, but like was said before, it is a REAL BIG part of this hobby.

just my opinion, I could be wrong

if people on this site and others would just shut there mouths the would be more deals for the average buyer who doesnt have crab boats full of money

That makes NO sense at all.You need to teach all the sites how to keep a secret I guess.Or buy a crab boat.
