No, dammit! The company that I work for is putting on a huge off site event at Tempe Diablo Stadium that weekend (just my luck)I will be working 10 straight days at least.

I KNOW that you'll have a great time though!

njsteve, your explanation for the blacked out hood is correct, but that is just the engineering dept speaking.
The MARKETING guys explained the flat black paint as being a "No Glare" surface, so that the sun wouldn't blind you when driving. This was from the AMX ads, but the Mustang and some other cars also had flat black paint on metal hoods. The concept came from the Air Force, as an aid to the pilots.
Sorry that I don't drink, Cliff.
BTW, my brain is also a treasury of useless information.

Here's an example of a flat black anti-glare panel as applied to the prototype Convair YF-102 "Delta Dagger" interceptor. Anti-glare panels were applied in the days when military aircraft were left in their natural metal finish from the factory. You can imagine the sun reflecting off of that new aluminum skin and creating all kinds of visibility problems for the pilot.

The F-102 was fondly known as the "Deuce" by its pilots.

Yes, you're absolutely right on the anti-glare panel comparison. Chrysler took an engineering minus and turned it into a advertising plus.
