Alot of us here know Doug, he is a friend to many long time members and a stand up guy. Maybe ChevyThunder will have additional comments after he talks to Doug, and I sure hope he does. He may just have a new good buddy
Things have already been said that are not the case, maybe a little restraint is in order ?

Thanks Mike

I will ask Rube to post the details on the rear and trans to clear up the possibilities and speculations.
IMHO, none of the parties involved have any ill intentions or malicious plans about the parts.

Here is what I know:
Rube had been trying to buy the car for at least the last ten years.

Doug called Rube on Monday night, which is when Rube told him to call back.

Doug had placed adds in the local papers for the past few months trying to locate this car.

Earlier this year Doug had tried to purchase the extra BE0708 rear that I have, which I got from Frank, for one of his cars.

Congratulations on the new toy Van.

Van, when you get a chance, give me a call. I would like to compare a few things on my car to yours. My COPO is 09A NOR111140 VIN#680415.

Talk to you later,
Eric

Well said Mike

Just got off the phone with Doug . We had a nice conversation , had a few laughs and life goes on . Doug sounds like he has some great cars and I enjoyed or talk. He would like to see these parts back with the orignal car as well.

I will try and re-unite the parts with this car.

Bottom line is this car stays with me . I did not buy it to flip it . I Have already started cleaning her up. However, if I ever sell it the owner of the M22 and BE rear end will get first dibs on the car at a price reflective of his contribution/efforts to reuniting these parts with the original car. Rube has been after this car for 10 years and just an FYI - I never knew this would play out the way it did. I was 20 min from the owners house to pick up the car when I discovered the original M22 and BE for this car existed. I was told that the BE was taken to a scrap yard two months earlier. After talking to Doug he had heard the same story.

It is tough when you buy a car and then talk to a guy who has been after the same car for ten years.. has sat in it , held the POP in his hand ... At one time Rube almost had a deal only to have the seller change his mind . Rube is a great guy and part of me wants to turn the car over to him but the other parts says , " you finally found the car you wanted" . So I find myself going back and forth in a quandary about what I should do but bottom line is I am going to keep the car . Still I feel for Rube . So the deal is the car is not for sale , because a few have asked... and if it ever gets sold I will make Rube a deal at below what the car is worth because I think that is the right thing to do. I do not see that happening anytime soon but whether it is 2 years from now or 50 he gets the first call. And if he passes it may or may not be fore sale publicly , and if it isn‘t , Rube will get another call down the road.

Sorry this thread got a little off track . Maybe I should have put some more thought into a few of my posts. Hopefully we can get back to following a story that has a happy ending , or I would like to think new begining, of a special car getting all it's parts back and being enjoyed like it was almost 40 years ago. I promise you guys I will do it justice

So is Rube or Doug one of the guys who was trying to buy it out from under you when you went to pick up the car ? Have you found out who was in the truck that took off when you showed up ?

Not important anymore. The facts have been stated:
1) Van is keeping the car
2) Rube is keeping the parts
3) Doug was not involved with parking a trailer anywhere except in his shop.
End of story for now. Anything else is just idle gossip and serves no purpose.

This is a case of people being passionate about the cars they love .. I will leave it at that. Rube has the parts and looks like they will be back with the car they were born with .

Fair enough. I guess I'm also guilty of being passionate about doing the right thing and when it looked like people were basically trying to steal the car out from under your nose it rubbed me the wrong way. Too many people these days have no regard at all for what's right and wrong when it comes to things like this. Glad it all worked out for the best.

Van, congrats on the COPO Camaro! A few years ago I had some luck of my own when I found a '70 LS6 Chevelle with only 17,000 original miles, POP, and later found the build sheet. Just like this car and mine, they are still out there!!
