Regarding Oldsmobile assembly line production at the Lansing Plant; Does anyone know for certain if the same gang stamp was to be used for the engine block vin derivative as well as for the trans?

judging from the pattern of corrosion on that trans case

the last 6 digits shouldn't even be readable

maybe a rag was laying on it for 40 years [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif[/img]

It's not corrosion, that the casting grain. It looks like the casting grain is flattened to the left of the VIN. And in that same vein, am I seeing things or is there a ghost image of another three to the left of the 3 in the red car's VIN?
