why did your dad put those mud flaps on the car?

They did protect the paint, lots of people still lived on dirt roads back then

The flaps did a good job of protecting the area around where they were but if driven a lot on dirt roads the area AROUND got peppered as well ...

My 70 Z28 had them on it when I bought it, I suspect they were added when the car was painted in 76 or so ...

I kept them on because this is what I did with the car at least once a month ...

Here is a picture of what occurs (my L34 Z11, I used that before I got the 70 Z28):

after I painted my car black (from Forest Green), I got the black rubber/vinyl kind:

My Dad bought in new in aug. of 70 and kept it till around july of 72 when he got married. He sold it to my uncle who kept it till 78. The 3rd owner was from 78 till 83. He blew up the motor not long after buying it and the car was somewhat parted, but the 4th owner spent alot of money tracking down and buying back all the parts.

Why do some of the cowl induction cars have the "cowl induction" emblems and some do not? My dads car did not, but I have seen other 70s that had it.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!! I found the CAR! Turns out that It was restored in the mid 80s. Was sold and has been in storage for about 10 years with very few miles on the restore. I am trying to set up a time to go look at it and maybe get a few pictures. The owner has asked me not to give out his name as he has a few other rare cars that he doesnt want people to know about. (worried about theft)

I lucked out and the previous owners of the cars kept track of who they sold it to. The guy that owns it now is pretty protective of it and the way it sounds the car is part of a collection that hasnt seen the light of day for at least 10 years. I am just hoping that I get the oportunity to look at the car but I know that I would not be able to afford to buy it back. But if I could, you betch ya I would try to buy it back!
