Bill... I asked about that on the Cutlass/442 Facebook group and many said that was common from the towing straps on old tow trucks. Makes sense why it looks symmetrical.

Finally got back to the Cutlass yesterday with some cooler weather to work outside. Degreased the top of the engine as best as possible without removing any brackets or components. Took my time covering up things first that I didn't want to get splattered and wet. Also cleaned carb, distributor cap & wires and vacuum lines. Installed NOS spark plugs and PCV valve. Not perfect, but looks better. Was neat to see the factory engine paint overspray on the dist cap and the original "RP" decal on the back of the carb.

Thanks! I've always used Meguiar's #40 for vinyl tops & interiors.
