While filming Jabba's sail barge scenes in Arizona, the set was often interrupted by dune buggy enthusiasts. In order to preserve the film's secrecy, producers told passersby that they were making a horror film called "Blue Harvest" with the tagline "Horror beyond imagination." They even had caps and T-shirts made up for the crew. Producers continued to use this faux title throughout production.

At no point in the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme does it mention he's an egg

You’ve probably heard of one of Monaco’s most famous landmarks, the Grand Casino de Monte Carlo. But what you may not have known is gambling is actually illegal for citizens of Monaco! In fact, even just setting foot in the casino is illegal for Monaco citizens, with the exception of its employees. However, the law doesn’t apply to more than 80% of the population, as foreign nationals residing in Monaco are exempt.

NEW YORK — The new year means no more plastic foam coffee cups, takeout containers or packing peanuts in most places in the nation's largest city.
New York City's long-planned ban took effect on Tuesday. The prohibition includes food containers and loose packing fill made from what's known as expanded polystyrene. Exceptions include butcher-counter containers for raw meat.

Expanded polystyrene used to be a waste from a manufacturing process; Dow chemical would dispose of it by floating it down the Saginaw river until they figured out they could make saleable products out of it.

Not totally related, but reminds me of a story:

There was a development engineer that got pulled over for speeding in an experimental GM vehicle.

He told the officer: "...see that speedometer there? It just got calibrated with a fifth wheel!"

The officer replied: "see that radar gun there? It just got calibrated with a tuning fork!!"

Dissolves in acetone.

The Coeur d’Alene Resort course’s 14th hole—the world’s only floating, moving golf green—presents a unique challenge to guests: Because of a system of submerged cables, the distance to play varies anywhere from 90 to 220 yards. If you make it on the green, a little ferry called the Putter shuttles you over to the 22,000-ton island in Lake Coeur d’Alene.
