I'm with Marlin, those original pics are scary. The Funny Car tires make it look like a caricature.

How about restore it to stock and do up a die-cast in its Day II form to place on the dash. Best of both worlds?

I'm into the restored race cars, too. And if this thing was time-capsuled like that MAYBE I'd be tempted to leave it, but no way could I restore it to that look.

I think you'd want to leave the wheelwells stock, and back space the cragers so you could get about a 8.5 slick in the stock opening. The colors appear a little washed out in the pictures. I'm thinkin you lighten the darkbrwn/burgandy to a lighter burgundy, and accent the panels with a pinstripe outline, maybe even fuzz shadowing the inside panel. I guess maybe you had to live in the times this kinda thing was popular to like it. It was an extension of the psychedelic drug infested, alcohol abuse, wild sex, acid rock era. An extended middle finger to conformity, followed by a "if you don't like it, fu k off dude". Some of us just have never gotten past that.

Where were you in 69?

I kinda go to the pics that Verne posted of York. All very cool, but a lot of them done in the nostalgia "back in the day" race car look. If this car had no race history, I'd say GG dog dishes, off the show room look. But this is the cars history/life. To put it back, would be somewhat like putting the Vitar copo, or Herbie's hugger, or the Ray Allen chevelle back to show room stock. A cars history, is like the story of your life. While a baby's born with a clean slate, he/ she are what they are in life by what they do. If he grows up to be a Hells Angel, you don't dress him up in a suit when he dies, and say "what a nice life he lived". In my old perverted logic, that's how I see these cars. Especially when there's documented evidence , and people alive to tell it's story. These cars say, "Iam, what I am". Tell my story. JMHO

I'd say this is the single best post by anyone in a while.

How many more showroom stock cars do we need?
