Old houses, I'm there too Verne w/ a Century brick home built in 1895...love it really just not how w/ old houses any small job turns into 10 BIG jobs! .
The craziest part for me now is taxes! .
As time has gone by and the value increased, my taxes have skyrocketed to over 5 thou. a year! . It's city waterfront w/ a boat slip and over 1/2 an acre that's causing it but for just me and my two kids living here, $100 a week seems a tough swallow? .
I wonder what the taxes in Kansas are like? .

Pete,
Water front with a boat slip, and only $5K in taxes?????????????? Boy do you have it good!. I've got a flood plain (swamp) property "backage" and I pay over $7K in taxes. I live in a 1SqMi town that has it's own police dept, sewer works, fire dept, rescue dept, public works dept, and library, 5 schools & 7 churches that don't contribute to the tax fund! Not to mention 3 factories that have closed up and are no longer contributing. Hightstown has the highest tax rate in all of central NJ; higher than Princeton!!

Wow Verne...You better start thinkin' of packing up the ol' Royal and heading for Kansas too? .

Seriously, taxes seem high compared to the values here as my joint would probably reach maybe 400 on a good day...and yikes, your taxes do sound worse than mine! .
