Does anyone own or know of an original paint 69 Camaro with the extended hockeysticks? I've only ever seen them in factory photos, ads, etc. I'd like to see if the fender extention portion was painted before or after it was bolted to the fender. You'd think if it was stenciled and painted after it was already bolted to the fender bottom there would likely be a poor edge where the stencil would have to pass over the fender to extention gap, but then again if they were painted before they were bolted up they'd be a real pain or near impossible to try and line up the stripes accurately. It's no wonder they were done away with on most production examples.
Any thoughts on how these "extended" fender protions of hockeystick stripes may have been applied at the factory? Or if they were ever even applied at the factory? The cars we're seeing in ads etc. may have been early production press/demo vehicles not built exactly as the factory would later gear up to do them. I can't say I've ever seen an original extended hockeystick in person, but I'd like to. Anyone got a bona fide example? Good resto topic here... |

One other question about this image. This car has the
1/4 louver chrome inserts, so why doesn't it have bright drip rail molding? Good eye...It SHOULD have the drip rail mouldings as well. Not necessarily. All Camaro SS had the louvers as part of SS equipment, the reason why there is an X55 and X66. If the car was not built with Z21 the wheel opening moldings were added.

Steve, I forgot about your car as an example of original paint and the extended stripes...and I even remember looking at the car in person at past GM Carlisle events, I'd just never taken note of the stripes.
Does it look as if they were stenciled all at once, fender and all or separately? Is there any bleed or loose edge on the stripe as it passes over the fender to extention seam? Also, William you're correct...I should have said IF it has wheel well mouldings it should have drip rail as well, as they were part of the same Style Trim package. Never should you have drip rail and no wheel well, or wheel well and no drip rail mouldings, but the quarter gills were included separately as part of the X66 package as well as the rocker sill blackout which was also included with Style Trim. Sorry if I've confused anyone...back to discussuing correct hockeystick stripes. |

Interesting thread! I have a 10D (early) base 69 convertible and I am going to put the D90s on. Should I extend the stripe like Steve's car?

Interesting thread! I have a 10D (early) base 69 convertible and I am going to put the D90s on. Should I extend the stripe like Steve's car? [/ QUOTE ] According to Steve's analysis, your car should have the extended stripes, unless there is another factor. Does anyone know if the extended stripe could have been associated with one particular assembly plant? I for one would like to know if all early cars had this extended stripe regardless of where they were built? ![]() Steve, where was your L/34 built? Mike, where was your Camaro built? Does anyone else have, or did you have, an early build car with the extended stripes? If you did, would you possibly remember the assembly plant? ![]() This is a great topic. Steve

My car is a Norwood built car. I believe it was common to both plants.

That picture was taken in July of 2000 at the Monmouth County Fair in NJ. The orig owner shown was a parks commissioner and in charge of that event. That was the first time he had seen the car in 19 years. He is pictured with the weird hub caps. The day before the car was at the Camaro National @ Carlisle being judged in the Vintage Certification program. Anyone interested in our survivor class certification program please contact me.
