It is amazing and sad how unprofessional Boyd's shop is. It is more of a school playground than a high end hot rod shop. He is terrible as a manager. Get control of your workers and have them have the proper decorum for a work place or they will be dismissed.

The guy who is the shop foreman is a complete idiot. He does nothing but badger the guys who are actually trying to get the work done. Incredibly Boyd does not fire this dead weight fool and hire someone who could work on cars as well as organize a team of professionals.

I too refuse to watch the show anymore. I don't like soap operas. This show will not last long and Mr Coddington better be careful about his image being tarnished or his high end status will not have longevity either.

--------Im no fan of Boyds either. He screwed an awful lot of shareholders with his attitude back when the original Boyds went public. With that said, I really believe that the entire show is scripted. A slick producer has got Boyd transfixed with the paycheck into appearing to have a completely unprofessional shop. I dont believe a bit of it!
--------And while Im at it, "American Chopper" is more of the same. You can really tell that those guys are just acting. Just my opinion.........Bill S

Early seasons of American Chopper showed all the yelling, angst, and drama and left you thinking that these people could not get along. Later episodes show the yeling followed by the horseplay and laughter, proabably all over-exaggerated for the camera. That said, the AC crew seems likeable, and they appear to have their hearts "in the right place" as my Dad used to say.

Some of Boyd's guys are also likeable (Machine shop Mike, Thomas from Sweden, Beetle Bailey) but others appear to be real jerks - Duane the foreman, Blue Bear when he was there, and Boyd himself. Did you see the episode when the intern was leaving, and went to say goodbye to Duane? Duane took that opportunity to completely ridicule the guy and then told him not to let the door hit him in the a$$...

6 months ago, I broke down and got Cable TV after never having it in my life. I thought it might be interesting to see those shows, among others. I have never watched one all the way through, because they're moronic. If it's really real, then all the people are jerks. If it's fake and scripted, then I don't care to see that crap

(gets down off soapbox)

I believe that the show is scripted also. Boyd couldn't get anything done with a limited time frame if his life depended on it!

My step brother had a Camaro done by Boyd when he had his Hot Rods by Boyd shop in Orange County in the early '80's.

Boyd was just starting to get recognition then...One of his more famous rides he did then was a mini pickup with a shell grafted onto the cab...and you were able to walk through(like the later 4runners from Toyota). This was during the mini truck craze, and the truck graced the cover of Truckin' magazine.

Even back then Boyd was a complete a$$hole, and was never on time with any of his deadlines for my step brothers Camaro...and didn't stick to his budget, either.

BTW, the Camaro was wrecked 2 months after it was completed. The Camaro was rear ended by 3 drunk marines(in a mini pickup). He was stopped at a light and they hit him doing 60+mph!

I agree with all you guys,The Bullsh*$ they are showing is just giving the hobby a BLACK EYE.I would not have anything built at Boyds Shop! And as far as the the shop Manager Duane ,I expect someone to KNOCK HIM OUT AT ANYTIME!They have ran off some of the better workers.and I think old Blue Bear should have been fired about a week after he started! Can you believe he was so DUMB to not box the frame of that car like Boyd wanted him to do,hell Boyd was paying him to build his own car! and buying all the parts! That was just plain Stupid of him to do what he did.I would bet that the show is hurting his business to some extent! You would think that Boyd would not want the image that is being produced! Not very professional if you ask me.

I think we may be missing the point...it's a TV show...who would tune in to see normal people doing a hard days work...drinking coffee, taking a dump...grinding some metal ...punch out and go home...it HAS to be idiotic and phony so us people will watch it and buy the crap the sponsors peddle...it's almost as bad as people eating maggots and dog crap sandwiches and hog balls....oops..some of you guys may eat hog balls...sorry

Yep it's a TV show, but there's a world of difference between Overhaulin' and Boyds pile o'crap show. How many episodes does it take to build a car? If you took out the bitching and bull$hit from that show, they'd only have enough for 2, maybe 3 shows...

I mean, who really cares how crabby Boyd's ex wife can be about shop supplies, and what they cost? Face it, it isn't great TV, and it can't be helping his image...at all! I don't watch the show anymore...

On the other side of the coin...the biker build off on Discovery Channel (where they used to give the guys a month to build the bike...is now only going to give them 10 (yes ten) days from start to finish. That way, they can cram 3 times as many different build offs into one season! Pressure from TV at it's best.
