Warren
I wasn't a friend of Warren. I talked to him for 2 minutes once. I've heard all the wonderful things that were said about him over the years. I am sorry for all of you who were his friend, for the loss of your buddy. It seems we have lost a great man who had some incredible knowledge of the hobby. I hope he didn't suffer.
On a lighter note... Congratulations to Charley for not only getting a spectacular car, but getting one that was formally owned by a dear friend. That makes it even better. Danny |

such an impressive car. I wish I knew it was what it was when I had to have walked by it at the show, I too probably thought it was restored. Cars like this at a show almost need their own 4 post lift to show off what they are (which is a treat to see from underneath).

Had the pleasure of spending a lot of time around this car on Friday of MCACN 2019! Stunning is an understatement. Congrats to all involved!

Glad to see Warrens car getting a great home.
So many truly rare components on that special car. Warren's passing was a great loss to the Camaro community. Like many of us older guys I first knew of Warren because of his many "Wanted" ads in Hemmings Motor News. He was always looking for stuff I had never heard of. Our friendship grew later with the advent of cell phones and email. He was always willing to share his vast knowledge about all things 69 Camaro. However, getting parts from him was another story...... His passion for the Camaro was in addition to his love of old watches. He wanted to be remembered for that as well. |

What an amazing Camaro! I never got an opportunity to meet Warren, but my most sincere condolences go out to family and friends that knew him. People like him are what make the hobby so great. Congrats Charley for having the privilege of owning a great piece of Camaro history!

That induction setup is fascinating, with the crossram hood being converted to 1x4. For the uninformed like myself, what was the reason for that being offered? Was that the over-the-counter workaround before the production steel cowl hood became available? If so, was it available from the get-go when the cross ram hood came out, or was that someone's creativity later to figure out, "Hey, we can fab up some parts to make this hood work on a single carb." And was that snorkel-less air cleaner specific to this set up, or was it available later with the regular steel cowl hood? Can't image there are many more of those set ups known to survive. This is certainly the first one I have ever seen. Congrats again!

If my memory is correct.....
According to Warren's research they only made 100 fiberglass hood assemblies. That included the hood, prop rod and the hood pin assemblies. I know the hood pins could be purchased separately but don't recall about the prop rod. Would have to dig up copies of the Chevrolet "Green sheet" for each year to see what was available when? I will say the hood was clearly intended for the Trans am racers because of the oval hole to meet the cross ram air cleaner. The rules changed for 1970; multiple carburetors were no longer allowed in Trans am. I will add that there were TWO hood adapters; one for the small block and another for the big block. That tells me they thought it may be used on drag cars as well? The air cleaner was specific for this application. These were service parts so they could be purchased and used however the buyer chose to do so. Be careful as some air cleaners and prop rods have been reproduced over the years....... I hope I got this right Warren. |

They did not allow the fiberglass ducted hood on Camaros in the Trans-Am series but I have seen them in use on Camaros in SCCA A/Sedan. The pic below shows a steel ducted hood in use on a '69 Penske Camaro. The A/Sedan class had some slightly different rules than Trans-Am. They were still allowed to leave off the bumpers even after Trans-Am wanted them left on. They also were not mandated to use fuel cells until several years after Trans-Am had required them.
