Careful now...there's others of us 'up here' in Canada that are far from being Ford boys. .

In themselves the cars are great. Smokey burnouts prove nothing. Any of these cars can do them at will. Four wheels locked up while stopping only proves that the brakes are better than the tires. Ours are nothing cars and I still wouldn't want some clown beating on them to prove nothing. I can hardly believe that the owners would let these guys do this to the cars. Do TV shows really have to do this kind of stuff to attract an audience?
Bruno, I had a '68 Ram Air Firebird that was set up by London Motor Products in London. They installed the full Royal Bobcat Kit along with a lot of other modifications. Ran pretty well and I didn't care whether it was a Royal car or not. I was just satisfied with the way it could put a long face on the Chevy guys' faces.

Hey Keith,
Was that a ramair II firebird? I think it might be THE quickest pontiac from that era. As far as the upcoming show goes,I know it doesn't prove anything but are those burnouts cool or what? I raced my car all year and all I did was change the oil.The bias ply tires are a great shock absorber for the drivetrain.I don't think Peter could have beat on it any harder than I did...........but then again....I wasn't allowed to watch either.

Bruno, it was the earlier Ram Air motor with the turbo 400 balanced, blueprinted, headers. I read once where there were fewer than 100 built with the automatic. I have no doubt that these cars in the show will take the beating, unless a shift is missed. The Chevies can even handle that. I've done it myself as far as going through the gears. Miss a shift in a 428 CobraJet and you have a good chance of putting a rod out the side of the block. In the late '60s the 428s around here spit rods and the L78s dropped valves. Stock big block Pontiacs didn't like the 6K+ rpm. This could create a basket of scrap. It was pretty common for these engines. I just don't want someone else doing it to my stuff. I didn't really test my cars until I was thoroughly used to them. I've never had two 4 speed cars that shifted or felt the same. I'd certainly never go out and pound on a fresh car, especially someone elses. I only know one person that I have enough confidence in to let him beat on my car and be sure that it will live. He doesn't have a TV show unfortunately. I'd like to see all these cars run with headers and slicks for some meaningful times. Unfortunately, good traction could break some very expensive parts. I'll probably be watching the show and cheering the old Pontiac along. I do have my darker Pontiac side.

this seems more like an exhibit rather than a shootout. what would be a more comparible competition between makes and models? i think they should all either be either compacts, mid-size, full size, or ponycar. i think then at least it wouldnt be intermingled. perhaps SYC Camaro vs S/S AMX vs Shelby Mustang vs Hemi Cuda vs RAIV Trans AM vs 428 Eliminator.
