Default GM clutch-flite question????????????

My question is does anyone know how much HP this set up eats up or any info on this set up (besides it eats input shafts)?
I was talking with Maverick Performance out of PA. And they should have a complete kit for sale in a year or something like that.

Back in day before converter technology came around the clutch-turbos and clutch-flites were the hot ticket...I can't count how many "how to" articles I've seen in old magazines about putting one of these together. We got one with our DH funny car...

It can't eat as much power. No converter slip and the front pump only works hard enough to lock up the clutches. You might give John Kilgore a call. He's "older than dirt" and can probably give you the low down.

I have 2 Clutch-Turbo transmissions.
The only HP loss is due to the weight over an aluminum 4 speed.
I like it better than the Liberty Hemi Crash-Box I used to have (as far as shifts), not as much fun though.

John's right...a TurboHydramatic shifts quicker than a Torqueflite because it doesn't have to wait for the previous gear to disengage...or so I've read.

Maverick performance said they're going to have it available in both trannys.

I'm planning to use my car as a track/Saturday night cruiser in town. With this tranny for street do you ease the clutch out and shift like a automatic the push the clutch in when your going to stop and for race dump the clutch at the RPM you want launch ?
By the way thanks for all the info.

Mark, the only thing that will make much difference in the way you can drive on the street verses at the track will depend on the clutch. As long as your clutch disk isn't a metal puck type with a solid center, it should work fine on the street and the track. And yes, having no converter means you will have to use the clutch when you stop.

Actually a Lenco works the same way your clutch auto will. Only difference is a Lenco uses mechanically operated wedges to lock up the trans and an automatic uses hydraulic pressure.

Little known fact; the first Lenco's had Buick Dynaflow disks in them.
