Don't dilly dally, go buy the Rally!!! If not for you, for someone here. Yes, headers were a common, virtually mandatory "Day 2" change/addition to those cars. Depending on what else you find when digging deeper into that one, and what the price is, make a concerted effort to own it. 20 thousand were built, 200 thousand exist, but an Orange, Rally Sport '69 Z/28 is hardly chopped liver.

Great find. Z/28's are always popular no matter how many were made. Flat hood, short spoiler, RS, great colors, don't wait.
Also, make sure any pics you post are not tagged with GPS coordinates or you might find it sold out from under you. |

I am not questioning if the trim tag is real but that is earliest X33 I have seen. In the past I have seen 12C being the earliest. I just learned something new.

12B is ok for X codes, definitely the earliest they started. The rear spoiler looks properly painted, check for the different diameter torsion bars in the trunk for the decklid (spoiler equipped cars). The motor if it exists would most likely have the vin on the front pad for an early Dec. assembly.

As an aside, a Q for the experts here:
Do the DZ 302's have the VIN number anywhere else than on the front pad? I have one in my '68 that came from a '69 Z but they decked the block so those numbers are gone. Wasn't sure if they ever stamped them elsewhere on the block.

The early LA built '69 Z28s seemed to be more commonly vin stamped above the oil filter while the early Norwood built '69 Z28s were on the pad early in the production (3rd & 4th quarter '68). By Jan '69 both plants seemed to move the vin stamp to the oil filter area although both plants seemed to use either location in the last months of '68 and into '69. The LA plant used the front pad for the vin stamp well into '69, at least as late as March of '69 some LA built cars have vin stamps on the front pad.

Los. cars switched back and forth through the year. A link to a CRG research of the topic: http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PartialVINs Thanks Kurt Sonen and others who have compiled this information. As far as your decked block, check the casting number to see if it may fall into the time frame of oil filter pad stamps. Then, look at the Los. as well time frames (a little trickier). Some will post how their car has an engine built 6 months before the car, I know that is possible, but at this point, post decking, what else do you have to go from?
