The guy has tried several times to sell that on the Impala SS427 website, without success. Might have been on eBay, too, but I'm not positive about that. I believe another factor is that he doesn't have a title for it.....some crazy story about that IIRC.

He's still trying HARD.....spoke with him, for an hour and a half ...... Couldn't get him off the phone. Nice guy though. Really believes his car is "COPO-like" rare. I think it could be beautiful, and cool, but a pit.... Gonna go take a look anyway, only a 45 min ride.

Painting the lifter galley woul allow the oil to drain back to the pan faster on a smooth surface. Not sure if it worked or not, but all us east coast guys did that back in the 70's. I believe the question was why would that be done to an orig 54k car? Probably has been rebuilt at least once.

----Thanks, Buddy! I just figured we all would know why the valley would be slathered with paint. Never did see any definitive proof as to weather it did any good or not, but we all paid attention to this kind of stuff.....Bill S

If he's to be believed, along with the previous owner, it's never been touched, except for the carb being stolen. Not that I'm in this for investment purposes, but I don't see ever recouping the resto cost.

We used Rustoleum Red(some high end guys used GE Glyptal)...in the lifter valleys, top of cylinder heads, timing chain area, etc...I remember spending a weekend cleaning the casting flash off the heads and lifter valley, washing and prepping the block and then painting everything. Like Bill said...not sure it made a difference but it looked cool...I guess we figured it couldn't hurt.

Folks, went back looking at this car. Do those ports appear correct for the l72?

Ok, but do the ports appear correct to you? They appear oval and I thought l72 were rectangle/square? But I'm certainly no expert.
