Just an update on this thread, I once again have an M22 L72 Biscayne back in my garage. I purchased the car from Tony (Scuncio) back in 2007, sold it to Barry (69L78Post) in 2009, and just bought it back from Barry this spring. Time to move forward with restoring the car. When I first owned it I did a ton of research on owner history, and was able to track its life from 1977 to present, when it was owned by Michigan Drag racer Dick Ross. It was his Saturday night street race car. No one suspected a 4000 pound brown taxi cab with dog dish hubcaps would run 11:40 at 118 MPH. Since buying it back I have located the original owner, who ordered the car brand new, and raced it under the name "The Whirlwind". Waiting on some photos, maybe film of the car from back in the day at Lapeer and various other Michigan tracks. The original owner is a very smart man, at the time a Flint GM worker, who knew exactly what he was was putting together when he ordered this car. With only 9000 original miles ( 1/4 mile at a time) he has always regretted selling it to Ross. As his health is not the best, my hope is to have the car far enough along so that he can drive it once again. I want him to power shift it like he did when it was new. A very rare car with really interesting owner history.

That's a great history you have discovered! Was he able to take ownership at the factory or did he have to have it delivered through a dealership? Pretty neat that he worked at Flint 2, as he probably had his hands on my 68 L72 Impala. What area was he in at the plant?

Steve, not sure of delivery but the owner worked at Buick Assembly. He bought a long list of muscle cars and raced them. When I first owned the car I posted on the Winter Wonderland website looking for the owner, with no responses. After getting the car back, I went back to the site to find a post looking for the car by the son of the owner, 3 years after my initial post. Two ships in the night situation. A very common last name, no e-mail, no phone, a relocation to Texas...if it were not for the drag race connection I would have hit a dead end. But the son races a 9 second 66 Chevy II and that was all I had as a lead. I should write a book about this car. The first half of its life was a great car/drag race story, and the second half was like a bad reality TV show.

Very cool car with even cooler history:-)

Best to invite the original owner for a visit and get the stories first hand. (Time waits for no man, don't wait)

Congrats Marc. That was definitely a neat car and has its share of stories.
