A friend lived on Maui for years and who moved to our area last year said that she talked to their friends in Lahaina and they said that it's truly a disaster and the way that it's being treated by the authorities seems completely crazy. She said that they have roads blocked coming and going from the fires so it's preventing people from leaving their homes when the fires are coming their way, as well as preventing people from going back to their properties after the fire has been put out. These are people who have lived there for generations who know no other place and have no place to go, but who aren't being helped by the government. She also said that the death toll is vastly understated. Extraordinarily sad.
