Re: 1970 Oldsmobile W30 Coupe 4 speed
Just recently got off the phone with the Original owner : )
Owner #3 from Canada saw the W-30 on eBay and contacted us a while back. He identified himself as owner #2, but was actually owner #3. He bought the car from owner #2 with only approx 20,000 miles on the odometer in 1984 for $8,400.00. He had the foresight to contact the Original owner and ask for additional info and/or documentation. The Original owner had a picture of the car from when recently purchased as well as the Dealer Shipping Invoice......similar info to a Window Sticker. The Original owner was a mechanic for the Car dealership where he bought the car and while he did have a Black White Stripe White Interior SS 396 Chevelle on order, the GM of the dealership wanted the First '70 W-30 they had received cruising the streets of Oshawa, so he cut the employee a deal in order to induce him to buy the car. The Original owner said that he hardly ever drove it. Drove his motorcycle to work most days and truck in bad weather. I asked him if he ever raced it and he said NO, but that he did get on it (literally) once or twice. |

Wow, what a fantastic car.
Real Deal, got to love Canadian cars. (some are well documented rust buckets but not this beauty) Ryan PS: Did you ask about the Black, white stripe, white interior Chevelle? (probably a 1970) I had to ask.

Re: 1970 Oldsmobile W30 Coupe 4 speed
Yes it was a '70 which he had ordered. He said that he would see it Cruising around the Oshawa area for many years, but did not know what had happened to it.
While it was repainted in the 80s, the car is very solid as none of the owners used it as a daily driver. |

Re: 1970 Oldsmobile W30 Coupe 4 speed
You know Stefano, this car is a "KILLER" in so many ways and has yet to find a new owner. Kinda reminds me of the '69 W-31 you offered and sold. Sometimes people don't know a deal when it is staring them in the face. I almost bought that W-31 just so I could say "I told ya so!" Sooner or later the stars will align for you, my friend, and when they do you and the buyer will both be happy.

Re: 1970 Oldsmobile W30 Coupe 4 speed
Nice looking car..... For us (me) non Olds guys, what exactly was the W30 package and how did it relate (if at all) to the 442 package?
Never did understand that and never asked until now. Rich

Re: 1970 Oldsmobile W30 Coupe 4 speed
That is a good question.
The W-30 Factory coded option started as a performance option added to the 442 in 1966 where only 54 were produced to Homologate the car for Drag Racing. This was Oldsmobile's Factory Race Car. So all W-30s have to be 442s first and all were built at the same plant in Lansing Michigan. The basis for the Performance Part of the Pkg was Forced Air Induction system and the necessary parts to support it or "outside-air induction" system as Olds called it. The W-30 evolved into the ultimate Olds performance/appearance Package. |

Re: 1970 Oldsmobile W30 Coupe 4 speed
So, in the case of the 1970 W-30 you got some mandatory options over and above a 442.
The W-30s were "select fit" factory blue printed 455 engine. Weights and clearence were checked and components were grouped and batched together for assembly. Carb. Dist. Rear. Had W-30 codes and specific part numbers. Aluminum Intake Special Heads 328 degree Cam (Only with 4 speed) manual disk brakes only Dual sport mirrors Red inner fender wells Mandatory W-25 special OAI hood. Less body and sound insulation was used as compared to a std 442. The cams are so lopy on a 4 speed W-30 that some original owners as well as dealers thought the cars had issues. |
