Wouldn't have been easier to ride with the kick stand up?

Yes I do...here's me and my brand new Raleigh Chopper back in 1970. And here it is now. I never could figure out how to do a wheelie without crashing, though.

I was posing for the camera This was the first bike of my own. With 4 boys and one girl in the family, all I ever got were hand-me down bikes. I actually learned how to ride on this one. You can see the seat is in the lowest position but my feet are still about 6 inches from the ground. I wasnt too good at balancing that thing.

Oh and the shoes? I had a habit of dragging the toes and scuffing my shoes whenever I was in a huff and didn't get my way. It didn't work too well on my parents and all it ever did was make my shoes leaky in the rain. Humbug!

Remember some of the accessories back then? I was a kid in the early-mid 70's. I had a speedometer, turn signals, one of those huge orange flags, a headlight with those generators that run off the front tire and Star Wars cards in the spokes for that motorbike sound. My privileged friend had one of those motorcycle grips that made a revving sound when you twisted it and a "CB Radio" that mounted in the center of the handlebars. It was really a walkie talkie.

Nearly every kid on our block had one of these by 1968.
