I had the L78 ordered for a long time. Didn't show up until June. Had about 5k on it when we met a bridge. Took the insurance money, borrowed some, and bought the deuce. My insurance actually went down because it was a non SS plain ole 350. Don was right. They were insurance beaters.
![]() I didn't buy the deuce until April of 71, so no, I didn't actually buy both in 70. |

I've always believed the Dual Snorkle air cleaner was first destined for the 1970 LS-6 Corvette.
Once it was realized there would be no 1970 LS-6 Corvette, and it would be a later release date, Chevrolet put the backlogged stock of these air cleaners on all the Aluminum intaked newly styled L-78 Camaros, some of the remaining L-78 Novas & LS-6 Chevelles. From what I've seen,it seems the cars originally equipped with them have their build dates fall between Jan.-July 1970 supporting this. Has anyone seen proof of one on a vehicle earlier then Jan.70? |

How about looking at it from a different point of view. Would all CKO stamped engines receive the dual snorkel air cleaner? Because the CKO was destined to go in Chevelles, Camaros and Nova's would the assembled engines be sitting with the air cleaner's already installed waiting for a car to go in? My L78 Camaro was built in Jan of 70 but the motor is late Oct. Would they have changed out the air cleaner on a motor that sat around for almost 3 months?

I believe air cleaners were the final dressing,so they wouldn't be sitting on engines early on.
Added on after the carburetor, which was not put on until after the engine was assigned to a body sequence number. Aside from the Camaro, not every CKO engine received them. And TH400 vehicles also recieved the Dual, stamped CTY for Novas and CRR for LS-6 Chevelles. |

I had always assumed engines were complete carb (air cleaner)to pan, but since there are instructions in the assembly manual for carb installation, that makes sense.. ![]() Also back to the air cleaner in the nova, I was going on what I'd seen on cars, and I've never seen any L78 nova pics or cars with anything other than an open element cleaner. does anyone have any photos? ![]()

I only have three pictures of mine. One through the windshield of a 70 GTO that we sent to a friend who was in nam at the time, and a couple when it was a wadded up pos.

We believe the change over occured in Jan of '70, along with many other changes to the Novas.
