The 1972 SCCA rule book allows any intake manifold for Trans-Am cars as long as it fits a single 4150 Holley. See rule #G,1 of attached page from that book. Roller rockers are also allowed per the '72 rule book, page 109, rule #E,12.

The University of Pittsburgh 1969 Trans Am car is for sale for 180k fully restored and ready to go... I would think that would be a better deal unless this car has a bunch of excellent history. Still , it is a very cool car and worth the money. If the guy spent 110k on it you would have to believe he will restore it an run it .. look forward to seeing that one at Monterey sometime.

That UoP car has a ton more history behind it than this car, wasn't Penske & Donohue involved with it?What doesn't figure is why this car wasn't raced until '70...according to the ad....but now here's a little insite into this sale:

I spoke to two of my sources today and both confirmed the same story, this car was purchased less than 2 weeks ago in Sacramento for...are you all sitting down(?)...$20,000.The main buyer had to borrow 1/2 the purchase price under the condition that they'd split the profit.

I'd say $45K profit in less than 2 weeks on a $10K initial investment was a pretty wise decision!

One of my friends went and saw the car this weekend and said those eBay pictures actually did the car justice.Still...what a buy, what a freaking buy.

Just goes to show guys...they're still out there.

Someone got a helluva deal at 20K. Obviously the ebay buyer was willing to pay $110k for the car... If I had the money and wanted a real T/A race car I would have paid the $110 also. I think that it is a nice car with history and is pretty much complete, as far as the UOP car goes, I would rather have a 68 and would rather have one that was campaigned as an independent if I couldn't affford either the Penske Donohue or Yunick Cars but that is just my opinion.

I guess it really depends on whether there is any real race history to the car prior to 1970. If the car is eligible for vintage SCCA racing the way it sits then price isn't as important since there aren't very many real race cars left. I think both cars are great finds but if you were planning on vintage racing you would need to plan out and budget pretty good to be able to race either car.

For me the model year doesn't matter. It's the history. A Camaro that competed in SCCA regional type production races will not get accepted to places like the Monterey Historics...the car has to have verified Trans Am history, not just SCCA history. Many cars that competed in SCCA are oftened times passed off as Trans Am vintage elgible and they are not.
There is a base value on these old race cars and then it can go up depending on what races the car competed in, who drove it and what kind of finishes it had. I don't know much about that 1968 car but I would suspect if someone paid 110k un restored for the car it has good history. Personally I would like to have both Still the 69 UOP car fully restored and ready to go seems like a better deal.. in the end niether will , or have , had a problem finding a new home . Both very cool cars.
I don't even want to think about how much money it would take to get the Sunoco 69 Camaro out of Ken Eppsman's hands.. I am not sure any number would do.

Probably the same number it would take to get the Yunick car from Vic and Cammie Edelbrock... Crazy Money
