![]() I work at Advance and sell the Optima batteries and we have had several come back since I have been there. Most were on race cars that don't run alternators and have to be recharged time after time. Have also had some come back that are on boats and classic cars that arent being used often. I had A battery tender on my bike that I hardwired the leads on and it preserved the original battery for well over five years. The battery tender is A great idea. Tommy ![]() |

The C-tek also has a feature that can pulse the batteries if they are sulphated. Supposed to knock the sulphate off.

That C-tek appeals to me.
I got twelve years out of my Delco Wet R-59 Battery by alternating the Battery Tender on it,then a Regular battery charger, back & forth routinely. I agree, keeping the sulphation process away as long as possible,as well as the cell level up is the key. It just recently gave up the ghost this winter.. |

I've been having problems with Optima Red Tops ever since I relocated my battery to the trunk. If I drive the car every day or two it starts fine. If I let it sit a week I need to jump it. I've was told that its because the length of the cable is too long for the 100amp alternator to keep the battery properly charged. I've now on my second red-top. No hissing yet, but I need to take another look at my new trickle charger.

It may not be the most ethical but I decided to try and have the battery warrantied. I dug out the receipt this morning and it turns out I bought it 3 years ago today. I left the headlights and radio on all morning to drain it down. I took the battery to Interstate Battery and they tested it. It tested bad and I got a new one no charge. Now I will take the money I was going to spend on a battery and buy the right charger.
