It's all about the part #'s and date codes. Look at those YH rally wheels that sold recently. Even if they were restamps they went for some big money. These cars are like puzzles to some people and they just need to have the most correct part to complete the puzzle. So money really isn't an issue for them. Now on one side, Jim at HBC has been buying NOS stuff for high prices so he can get some really decent repo stuff made with the NOS as the "mold" if you will. I have no complaint about him paying a high price if he plans to introduce some better repo stuff.

I know where a 4296 carb is sitting on this guys shelf collecting dust. I passed it up cause I didn't need it, guess I will have to see if it is still sitting around on that same shelf.

This might be like the LS-6 dipstick, the 69 Camaro rivited sill plates, and the x-rams that went for abnormaly high numbers. Ebay will be flooded in a few days.

Wow. And I thought I was crazy for spending $1000 for a restored carb for my 4-speed, 455 HO, two years ago. (Now they're $2000 for a rebuildable core!)

Guys !

I'm all for the correctly dated components as well. It's
an obsession. But you have to ask yourself just one big
question. Would the addition of a properly dated 4296
bring the price of this car up an additional $10,000.00?
I don't think so. I bought a dated 4296 body about a year
ago and I'm hunting the correct baseplate now.

Anybody got $10,000.00 they don't need?

Steve
