Very good info. Are the Firestone Wide Oval repro tires also correct for the 69 Camaro SS. I anyone knows, how do they ride and handle compared to the Goodyear Wide Tread in a F70-14 size. Thanks,
Paul

No the repro Wide Ovals are not correct for a 69 Camaro either... the only repro F70 14 that is currently offered that would be acceptable for your car is an F70-14 wide tread Goodyear. All the repro bias ply tires drive and ride about the same... alot of guys cry about them and claim them to be impossible to drive on etc... but I have had them on lots of stuff for years, with 1000's of miles logged and really don't have any problems with them..besides, radials look terrible on 60's cars

Here's a close up of the repro Wide Tread. I believe the correct tire for early 1969 was the "Wide Tread" and not the later "Wide Tread GT." And, yes they do right kinda rough. The car rolls much nicer on the new Firestone Indy 500 radials that I have mounted on an extra set of rims.

Steve, your tires look great, I have a few spots on mine, but at least they drive straight down the road, my other tires tracked the cracks in the road, I was all over the place, The new tires are doing great for handling , I don't get stop by the cops as often.....Kasey

Steve, what P/N from Kelsey Tire is the one shown above? Would it be 114-481-040. Thanks,
Paul

I think I have been influenced by the pictures of the PACE CARS with the WT-GT's
Ref; Life Mag insert, Hugger pace car post card, Various 8 x 10 track car photos', Motor Trend Aug 1969 page 33 'Keeping the pace' ...Finally, pre-burnished brake pads are used with the four-wheel caliper discs (RPO-JL-8) from the Z28, which also supplied the 15 x 7 inch ralley wheels with F-70 x 15 Firestone Super Sport 200s or Goodyear Wide Tread GT's. The key must be that the Track cars got the GT's on 15" rims. I would agree my spare might look neat but is not correct. I need to step up and order a set of the Wide Tread Size reproductions and mount on a spare set of rims and then enjoy! ![]() Steve, The GoodYear Wide Tread F70-14 tire in your picture looks very nice. I was looking a the the Camaro dealer sales brochure and the tires in the photo's of the Camaro SS all appear to be GoodYear Wide Tread F70-14 or Firestone Wide Oval F70-14 The photo's look as if the tire lettering was airbrushed on the tire walls after the fact. Not sure of the revision on the sales document (D-67140) There was a thread earlier with some great info: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/show...fpart/all/vc/1 Lots of information to digest. I have installed the NEW Firestones Firehawk INDY 500 radials (P225) Car is more stable. Interesting side note May 1985 Camaro Corral 'Get out and Vote' A pole was taken to help determine which tire would be reporduced by Keley Tire (Custom wide tread poly glass or Wide tread GT) 15". Interesting comment about needing to send tires back to Kelsey. I had the do the exact same thing, only I had to go through 10 tires to find 5 perfect ones for my 69Z. The sidewalls were blemished and were dull looking like some of the rubber came off. It was strange, anyway Kelsey was cool about it except for the fact like you mentioned. They make you pay for all of them until you return the defective ones. I had a couple grand in tires laying around my garage this past spring. Bottom line is that they look correct and I like them. Don't care how the car drives.

That concerns me that I may need to buy 10 tires to find 4 or 5 good ones. I wonder what kind of quality control they have at Kelsey Tire? Also, who pays for all the shipping for these defective tires as that can get expensive.
Is there someone who can be contacted at Kelsey to ensure a good set of tires? Paul
