I gotta tell you guys a great story about the first time we ever saw one of these cars. This was in late summer of '69, I had a buddy who had a new 69 Super Cobra Jet Mach One with a 4 spd 3.89 locker rear, Hooker shorty headers and M&H 9 inch wide slicks. One of our friends, Abe the Arab just bought a low mile (under 10,000) red Six Pack and he wanted to race. I was with Jerry in the Mustang (yeah Bob I wasn't this big then so it didn't make much difference) and we decided to race with the headers closed to even things a little. The Mustang ran pretty good but it was still pretty new and was maybe a mid 13 sec car. Anyhow we take off and with the slicks and the Super Bee on red lines we put about 4 cars on him right away. I'm watching out the back window when we are at the top of first gear and I told Jerry, He's coming. As soon as we shifted into 3rd that Six Pack was on Jerry's back bumper, you should've heard the thing, it sounded like a freight train! When Abe got almost even with Jerry, about the middle of third, Jerry shut down. No way were we at the end of the quarter so I looked at Jerry and said, He got you ya know. Jerry said yeah I know but he's such a dumb ass he won't know so don't tell him. Well jerry and I are pretty good buds and I like Abe but don't hang around with him so I figure what the hell. We get to the end and Abe says "Hey, I almost got you". Well, I kinda felt bad for him cause he really would've cleaned the Mustang, so I said "Hey Abe that thing really runs hard". I don't know what happened to the Six Pack I think Abe sold it not long after that but I was a Chevy guy and didn't think much of Road Runner 383s or 440 GTXs, but damn that Six Pack really impressed me! I'm glad I grew up in the 60s, I was right in the middle of all this. I feel sorry for these kid ricers now a days, all they can do now is race their radios and polish their spinners because it costs so much to buy and run a car like a new GTO or a Vette. So it makes me happy for guys like Frankie that he and his dad get along so well and they take that Deuce out and run the wheels off it. When he gets older he will be able to remember when he was running his car with all the other heavy iron! Frank Payne
