by the way all the pictures are of the same rim
...I noticed that next to the valve stem was stamped m48 but the inside had m18? kind of thought that unusual for code stamping, as I would assume that stampings would be the same number if referencing a date or application?

Makes perfect sense- Wheels were made in 2 pieces. The outer rim and the inner part. Those dates are for when each part of the wheel was made, not when the wheel was assembled. The assembled date are the numbers on each side of the valve stem.

Those are the dates & codes for the outer pieces in your second picture.The valve stem codes are when wheel was assembled.
M4=Manufacturer Motorwheel.
8=1968
11=Month,November
4=day
YA=Application code

so that wheel is correct for a 69 model?
I'll have to check the other one now, as my cousin told me he took it off of a 70 chevelle some years back.
thanks!

Yes it is a 1969 application,but your cousin could have possibly found that on a early built 1970 Super Sport too,(Sept.69 to late Nov.69 from buildsheets I have)
Although built nearly a year prior,I would imagine they used up all the remaining YA coded inventory before the AO coded wheel was tapped.I did see a early 1970 SS car with 12/27/68 YA rims,& looked to be authentic.
A.Colvin states the earliest assembled AO code he has seen is Sept.23,1969.
