Thanks for the replies
I was under the impression the 427/425 Camaros ran A or B Stock. Am I correct that they run un-factored at 425 hp? Re: minimum weights... Stick car is natural A/Stock at 8.00 lbs per HP. Add 170/driver = 3290 min. Auto car is natural B/Stock at 8.5 per HP. Plus 170 = 3485 Is this correct? As I'm predominantly a "street car" guy, the whole NHRA factoring thing is a little fuzzy to me, hence the "newbie" questions. I would like to discuss this further off the board if anyone is willing to share some info. I obviously don't expect anything proprietary, I'd just like to cover some basics to make sure I understand them correctly. If anyone is willing to help, please PM me or shoot me an email (in my profile). Just trying to spare a little board space and bandwidth You guys rock. Eric |

Might as well cover this here, in case anyone else is interested. The rest of you class racers jump in and correct me if I lead him astray...
First off, take a look at the NHRA Stock Car Classification Guide. This will provide you with the current HP factor, from which you can figure your minimum weight and your class. I'll use the L-72/400th as our example. From the link above I select "Chevrolet, 1969", which will open the page for all 1969 Chevrolet combos. Then, I scroll down to "Camaro", to "Coupe w/TH", which is the L-72/auto combo. It tells me it has an "8.06 lb per HP" factor, and is factored at 425hp. Now, with that, I look in my NHRA rule book (thanks Barry!) and it tells me that it falls in "A-stock", which is 8.00-8.49. Now I can figure my minimum weight. Since it's a natural A/S car, I can use the class minimum weight factor of 8.00. Multiply 8.0 by the Hp factor (425), add 170 for driver, and you get a minimum weight of 3570. NHRA also allows you to drop down 1 class by adding weight, which means since it's a natural "A" car it can drop to "B" by adding 212.5 pounds. See, clear as mud! First I'am sorry for the mistake of misreading L-72. I should not answer the computer at 11.30 at night.
NOW. A 427/425 will make A only in a 1969 camaro. It can not get heavy enough to go to B. Fast A cars Bobby D. Bobby Brannon Thomas Arnett Joe Sorenson A 1969 CAMARO will make B with a Stick but will NOT make C with a stick. It will not make weight. Fast B Stick ED Bendez Geroge Cottell A 1969 CAMARO will make A OR B Stick with Alum Heads. Fast A Stick Kevin Helms A 1969 CAMARO will make B or C Auto With Steel heads. It ONLY make B with Alum Heads. A 1969 CAMARO will make E auto with a 396/350 Motor(parson & Myers) I do not know anything about weight for Novas or Chevells. the Person asked about A CAMARO. I run Div 2 3 & 4 Thanks Larry 2206 C/SA |

Any of you guys ever run into Mike Keenan (sp?) or any of the other Team Checkmate cars? I've talked with them a few times on the phone about some parts and stuff...I *believe* Keenan runs B/S, but I can't remember if it's a Camaro or Nova.
BTW, BigDog needs some 074 heads!!!! |

Bob Broadbent set the national record at Maple Grove with there 1969 camaro in C/Stick. I think they run a 375 horse 396. Tom Baird went a 10.10 at the Grove this year with the Silver Car in A/Stick (Dutch Classics). Seems that most A/Stick cars are running 396's they seem faster than the 427. A/SA seem to be the 427 cars. I believe Helms is a 396 with aluminum heads, that is why he went to A/S (head change)if I am not mistaken. Gary Hettler likes the 396 motor better with the 4 speed, I was told.
