A Z-16 is a 1965 Chevelle with the 396 engine. I thought you were refering to "big blocks" many small blocks did have the heat shields, most were two piece items not the individual shields like on the big block.

We are talking about big blocks here.
Who all here has orginal Camaros or Chevelles that can confirm this one way or the other.

Most of the Camaros I have seen did not have them.

Big block Camaro and chevelles did not have the heat shields! I have seem many originals and owned a new 1968 SS Camaro with the396-375 HP. (NO HEAT SHIELDS)

My .02
I have never seen a survivor 1969-70 Chevelle SS B/B Car with heat shields.
People who restore them that way, always regret that bad info they gt before hand.

I think I owe Charley an apology because back in the parts wanted section, you asked what these were for and I thought you were joking. Looking back now, is this subject what you were saying? If so, I apologize.

This is by far the greatest Camaro site with the best support group. Seems we (or some of us) learn something every week.

Oh by the way, cancel the looking for heat shields thing in the parts wanted! HAHA

I got this Email from Jerry MacNeish yesterday on this subject:

I know for sure that '68-69 big blocks did not have them. And I'm fairly certain that '67's didn't either. I bought a brand new '69 Chevelle so I was there in the beginning. I'll check with others that I judge with for the '67's.
