on a side note...Boomspeed seems to SUCK! Every post that I've seen on this board takes like a minute to load...if it does at all. I'm on a cable modem and this reminds me of my 14.4K days.
just my $.02

I have a 1967 Fitch Firebird. It was a
conversion car like the Shelbys and Yenkos. The cars were done by a road racer named John Fitch in CT.To the best
of his recollection he made between 6-12
cars.

The cars had a reworked steering box & brakes, special shocks, Lucas driving lights, screen over the lights, one time
wiper switch, headlight flasher switch, light monitoring panel, and sail panels
that sat on top of the rear quarters that ran from the roof line down to the
tail light panel. This made the car look
like a AMX from side.

All the cars were 400ci engines with the exception of one Sprint OHC-6 car(which is mine).

He also did 64-69 Corvair conversions called Fitch Sprints, and a one off car of his own using 66 corvair drivetrain.

Rick, Can you post a picture of your 67 Fitch Firebird? I live in CT and was looking at the Fitch Phoenix production car #1 (and only) on display at the Lime Rock vintage Trans Am race on Sep 3 2001. John Fitch was at the show but I couldn't find him. I have a book about him. He was a W.W.II fighter pilot, car builder, sports car driver, helped design Lime Rock Raceway, designed highway safety barriers and more. Interesting guy.

Gents:

Supercars you ask? GM, Ford and Chrylser produced a TON of them from 1954-1973. GM and Dalimer/Chrysler still produce them today! Witness the 2002 Viper, Z06 Corvette and the SS Camaro/Firebird. These are excellent examples of modern day muscle cars. It took the American car manufactors 35 years to get it right...but they finally did!

Check out Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car collection at http://www.musclecarmuseum.com/ Its' worth your time if you're in the area.

Enjoy your cars.

The fins on the Fitch really have no purpose other than styling. Although air does pass through the center of them. Fitch
claims no functional purpose.
Fitch engine mods:
400ci cars: low pressure exhaust, headers, throttle linkage, & on automatic cars a modified shifter (not sure how),Judson 30k volt coil.

OHC Sprint car: Hotter cam, 30k volt Judson coil, true dual exhaust, Fitch started to make his own supercharger for it but never finished it.

The Fitch package cost about $1000 more than the sticker price of a comparable optioned Firebird.
The OHC cam car is fun to drive. 6500 rpm red line, backed by a 4 speed with a 3.11:1 first gear. Fitch being a road racer preferred the OHC car saying it had the power you needed most of the time and the 400 just made the car more nose heavy. I feel the OHC car can stay with any v8 0-60mph, but doesn't have the top end.

My car from the factory had rally gages, hood tach, tilt, wood wheel,am/fm, console, trim group, deluxe int, deluxe seat belt w/shouder straps, radial tires floor mats. The billing history shows it was billed to the Pontiac Engineering dept and given to Fitch to develope his package.

Thanks for the comments, Rick
